When I was in New Zealand a few years back I saw some
Maori sailing boats--long canoe like things with an
outrigger and a hinged mast. Does anybody know of
any book that has enough dimensioning information
to build such a boat? I know the Maoris are trying to
preserve their boat building skills, but I haven't been
able to find anything on the internet.

This may have been what you saw. Email Gary as he has lived in NZ for
years and has designed/built all sorts of outrigger canoes. He has
spent nearly all of his adult life living/sailing in the Pacific and
probably would be able to answer your questions.
If this is anything other than a passing interest and you really want
to know about Pacific canoes (history/construction) you might consider
picking up a copy of Canoes of Oceania.
