Cockpit Grating - non-Teak Favorite?

Subject says it all.  Cost and rot-resistance are the key
characteristics for a DIY grating, I suppose.  What are yr favorite
east coast woods here?

Atlantic white cedar is first choice.  Northern white cedar second.  Cypress
is OK, but gets heavy.  White pine might last a while.

If teak strips are thin (no more than 1/4"), the cost of all materials is
under $10/ft^2, half the materials cost of a teak grating.

My love of cockpit gratings ended when I dumped the bowl of dip.  They're
very hard to clean.
