Hey guys whats going on? I used to have a 23' wellcraft nova and
fueling was a breeze. I upgraded to a 31' silverton and would like to
know if there are extra precautions while fueling and using the
blower.

Before fueling, turn off all electric/electronic devices and close all
hatches and sidelights. Do NOT run blowers during fueling (which you
should not have been doing while fueling your 23' boat either)...only
after. But before starting blowers, raise engine room hatch...stick your
head in and sniff for gas fumes. Then run blowers for at least 4 minutes
(no matter how impatient the dock hand may be to move you out sooner)
before starting engines, opening hatches and turning electric/electronic
equipment back on.

Tha's all there is to it.

We had a new boater ignore this advice a couple of weeks ago at our fuel
dock. When he started the boat, it blew all five of them into mid-air. An
eleven year old landed on the dock and had to be taken away by helicopter
with broken legs and severe burns. The others landed in the water and had
minor injuries. A dock hand got second degree burns on one side of his body.

Please be careful with gasoline boats, and SNIFF the bilge yourself before
starting. Run those blowers!
