I just finished "Memorial Day" by Vince Flynn. I started it at the
breakfast table yesterday morning and I was up until after midnight
finishing it. It really is one of those books that you don't want to
put down. The plot of "Memorial Day" revolves around an attempt by
Mid-East terrorists to set off nuclear weapons in the United States.
The good guy in the story is CIA operative Mitch Rapp. Mitch Rapp is a
blue collar James Bond and IMO one of the most enjoyable characters in
current fiction. The scary part of this book is that there are people
in the World who are trying to do just exactly what the protagonists in

this story attempt. If you are prone to nightmares this is probably not

a book for you.

On page 4 & 5 of this book there is an explanation of torture that
everyone in this country should read and understand.  If you are a
pacifist and think that there is never any situation where violence is
justified you will be offended by this book. This book would be a great

stocking stuffer for those who enjoy a good action/thriller while
relaxing on the boat.

I suggest you dig out your Webster's and look up the word "protagonist."

[OT on]

It doesn't take Webster's to see that a protagonist is just a tagonist
that gets paid.  That's why they call prostitutes "pros".  Funny though,
my Websters doesn't define "stitute".

OTOH I suspect that a tagonist is one of those guys that goes around
painting graffiti on walls for the gangbangers.  A protagonist must be
one that is very good at it and hence can command some payment for
his/her services.

The other poster could argue that the terrorists in the story are main
characters as well.  Who knows.

[OT mode off]

Happy holidays everyone!

Thanks for the correction Dave. Antagonist or villians would have been
the right choice of words.

So it's good for the US to have several thousand nuclear weapons pointed
at the rest of the world, but it's bad if someone else wants to
point/detonate some here?  hmmm... I'm missing something

You're missing a lot.

China has many more missiles pointed at the US than the US has pointed at
anyone. Their reward or penalty? Walmart and the fools that carry home the
shoddy merchandise.

The Soviet Union did not evaporate - it was renamed - the missiles are still
there, aimed like little kids aim bottle rockets.

PAKISTAN HAS NUKES?? Well, they our "ally."  (Hahahahhahahahahhahhaha)

............it's over folks - the reason the US is boggled down in Viet-raq
is "political correctness" making the sheeple unable to accept blasting the
schitt out of anyone messing with the US. We have a bed-wetting inclination
to empathize with the enemy. It won't end...ever.

We won't even air drop invaders over Mexico CITY!

"and it's one, two, three what are we fighting for, don't know and don't
give a damn.."

WAIT A MINUTE WAIT A MINUTE....... we aren't fighting, as long as we have
slightly lower cost shoddy products from China and panderers increasing the
welfare system.

Wages are dropping like a wet bag of cement.....in ten more years the US
will be competitive and productive.

So here you are pointing at a book of fiction to justify the torture
that we have been doing for some time now. Get real.

We have been engaging in the torture, sometimes to death, of captives
for some time now. In NOT ONE INSTANCE was the so-called "ticking bomb"
scenario involved. That argument for justifying torture is as phony as a
three dollar bill.

So here you are, another cheap apologist for justifying why we Americans
should hold our heads high while sinking so low, using a work of fiction
to make your case. Well, that's appropriate. For all the excuses for our
torturing captives, as well as our denials of having done so, are works
of fiction.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all - or else! ;)

Read the book then say what you will 260780.
I would advise you to move to a country like Iran, Syria etc. You would
probably appreciate the opportunity to live in one of those fantastic
societies.

Want thousands of books to take to sea that don't screw up the boat's
balance or lower her in the water?

alt.binaries.ebook
alt.binaries.e-books
and all the clones that look like that.

Most of them are in PDF format for Adobe Acrobat, even tons of brand new
magazines, technical manuals, an amazing array of stuff to read for a
lifetime.

These newsgroups have a hundred books a DAY!

You're right.....it is a good read.  That was the first one of his I read.
Since then, have read all but one....Term Limits.  Flynn reminds me of what
Tom Clancy would be like if he employed a good editor.

his better book was his first - "Term Limits"....but it had a sad ending.
The good guys gave up, the congress and panderers won.

Awesome concept though. Should be mandatory reading.
