Hello, sailors.

Does anyone know of this French design, built from the early '80s to
1990 or so when the company fell prey to a recession? I'm looking at
visiting one with the idea of using it as an offshore cruiser. It's a
fibreglass ketch with a small pilothouse, and it weighs about 20,000
lbs and is 37 LWL and 43 LOA.

Opinions desired.

Thanks,
R.

At one point I was considering the purchase of a Jouet 36 or 38.  Did some
web research but was not able to find out too much.  I didn't come across
anything that would turn me away from buying one though.  I think some of
the boats were designed by Phillipe Briand.  You might try posting your
question on uk.rec.sailing as these boats are more common in European
waters.  I did that and got a couple of replies (which I didn't save).
If the price is right, and it is described to be in good condition, its
probably worth a look.

I have found out little as well, despite fairly well-honed search
engine skills <G>. It's yet another sign to me that the world before
1995 or so is fairly poorly documented online in many ways. I was
fortunate the broker had JPEG scans of the original French sales
brochure...and that I can decipher nautical French.

The Joeut 1280 has a "Y. Mareschal" listed as "architecte".

There may be a custom duty issue that could be annoying. We'll see.
Thanks.
