Not really. Read the fine print.

It's more a novelty, than a real substitute for an AIS receiver.

iPhone is a novelty.  Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

But, alas, it WOULD function quite nicely as an AIS for a small boat
without the $2000 price tag ripoff.
