'Competent Crew'01 Jun 2005 00:02 GMT16
Off at the end of June to Plas Menai to do a 'Competent Crew' course - 5
days living on a 10M yacht.
Now I've got the kit list, but I was after any suggestions or 'Top Tips' -
extra kit to take, not take - really anything!
more faulty thinking31 May 2005 22:51 GMT13
Lets say you built a boat with a spherical hull that had the same resistance
to movement in all directions and put the most expensive sail you could buy
on it.
Could you make progress against the wind?
RCD31 May 2005 22:50 GMT1
When does RCD apply?  Does anyone know whether a South African yacht home
built in 1998, brought into EEA in 2003 and offered for sale.  RCD says that
if a boat is offered for sale in EEA after 1998 it must be RCD compliant,
however under exemtions a home built boat that isn't ...
Guildford Coastal Cruising Club31 May 2005 22:43 GMT2
Anyone who lives in the Surrey/North hampshire area will really
appreciate this club which I joined a couple of years ago.  It's very
friendly and benefits from frequent informal rallies around the Solent
and beyond, a regular Tuesday evening chat around the bar at Guildford

Not sure if that is the original bronze rudder, don't look quite right.
With her bowspirt attached she suppose to be over 62 foot long.
And has anybody ever heard of ...
Cutlass Bearing Chk.-out; OK31 May 2005 18:07 GMT7
Bearing and Alignment checked out OK. Can say the same for  the Bottom
job.
Motored out to the finish line of the "Sea to Ski" race. The Kayak leg.
Gave them room but let them set the pace as I checked "Bearing,
Sailing Directly Upwind31 May 2005 08:36 GMT427
A few years ago I heard about a boat that could sail directly into the "eye"
of the wind. It was driven by a windmill I think. Does anyone know anything
about it. I often wondered if it could be done.
My Weekend31 May 2005 08:35 GMT34
Went sailing with an old college friend on his new (to him) J-24. We
raced in the Southport NC Leukemia Cup, and performed respectably...
didn't win but were in the hunt once we started using the right sails.
One of the competitors broke their mast

Where to cruisers stop in Roatan?31 May 2005 03:41 GMT4
I have a friend in Roatan who is currently working as a bartender and
looking for a ride out on a sailboat (as crew).
Where do cruisers stop on this island (where people would be looking for
crew)?

Repeal the Seventeenth Amendment by Thomas J. DiLorenzo May 17, 2005
Every once in a blue moon someone in Congress (usually Congressman Ron Paul
of Texas) proposes a law or resolution that would actually improve the
prospects for human liberty and prosperity. It’s rare, but not ...

I've composed a new, perhaps more effective, abuse letter30 May 2005 23:51 GMT2
I've spent several hours composing  a new abuse complaint letter
since I haven't been having much luck with my netcopping lately.
Here it is. Tell me what you think and feel free to use it. Some
credit must go to Katysails as she helped me out with the

Barcelona Maritime Museum Photos30 May 2005 02:37 GMT9
Here are a bunch of photos I took last month in Barcelona
at the Maritime Museum.  I rate Barcelona one of my favorite
city, a bit behind San Francisco.  The people were friendly.
The city was very clean.  And the culture was top notch.
