| keels on old sailing ships | 31 Aug 2006 21:33 GMT | 7 |
I don't know much about sailing, but I was just wondering what kind of keels the old sailing ships had (like the Mayflower). Did they have a distinct keel, or was it just more like an extension of the hull? I looked at some model ship images, and it doesn't look like there's

| Wallas cooker | 31 Aug 2006 07:24 GMT | 2 |
We've finally got our nice diesel cooker working. It's a Wallas and is great, as long as you've got a long term view to quick cups of tea. This is a stove that requires planning............. Anyway, we never ended up with the right instructions to the cooker part,

| Any experience of Activity Yachting in Croatia? | 30 Aug 2006 19:21 GMT | 3 |
Has anyone been on a holiday with Activity Yachting in Croatia? I'm considering going with them as they're one of the only companies with availability on a 1-week flotilla in September (which is on their Learn to Sail course, but we only have Competent Crew at the moment).

| Pilothouse Conversion | 30 Aug 2006 17:12 GMT | 3 |
A few years back I stumbled (actually Googled) onto a company that made pilothouse conversions for popular sailboat models. The houses were one piece, fit nicely, pleasing looking, had instrumentation, controls, stout, good layout, strong enough for a cabin top traveller and ...

| Cockpit Cushions - Leather? | 29 Aug 2006 20:55 GMT | 10 |
I've priced out the cost of using USCG approved throwable cushions vs a custom made set of closed cell cockpit cushions. Since my cockpit is 8 feet in length I'll need 16 throwable cushions for the seat and 16 more for the back rest. That is 32 cushions on my large, spacious ...

Since I sail in coastal and inland waters and the migratory bird hunting season is coming up, I want to combine two of my favorite activities - duck hunting and sailing. Does anyone have good recommendations for the placement of a gun rack in the

| City Isaland winter storage | 29 Aug 2006 17:56 GMT | 16 |
Looking for a place to haul for the winter on City Island. Got the contract from Barron's Boat Yard, and I see that they insist on painting the bottom. I'd rather do it myself. Any recommendations? Westchester or the Island close to the City would also do.
