An excellent choice, especially for the enthusiast!
keels on old sailing ships31 Aug 2006 21:33 GMT7
I don't know much about sailing, but I was just wondering what kind of
keels the old sailing ships had (like the Mayflower). Did they have a
distinct keel, or was it just more like an extension of the hull?
I looked at some model ship images, and it doesn't look like there's
Wallas cooker31 Aug 2006 07:24 GMT2
We've finally got our nice diesel cooker working. It's a Wallas and is
great, as long as you've got a long term view to quick cups of tea. This is
a stove that requires planning.............
Anyway, we never ended up with the right instructions to the cooker part,
best beginners book overall31 Aug 2006 02:02 GMT13
Looking for a little advise on what I could read to get a good overall
knowledge of sailing. I plan on taking a power squadron class but would
like to know more than nothing before I get there. In fact I know I
don't know anything so that is something...right?
MD7B fresh water cooling conversion?30 Aug 2006 19:29 GMT16
Just a bought a Mirage 28, about 1983. It has an md7b with direct (i.e. salt
water) cooling.
Anyone know anything about how to convert it to a closed cooling system? I
believe this would
Any experience of Activity Yachting in Croatia?30 Aug 2006 19:21 GMT3
Has anyone been on a holiday with Activity Yachting in Croatia?
I'm considering going with them as they're one of the only companies
with availability on a 1-week flotilla in September (which is on their
Learn to Sail course, but we only have Competent Crew at the moment).
Pilothouse Conversion30 Aug 2006 17:12 GMT3
A few years back I stumbled (actually Googled) onto a company that made
pilothouse conversions for popular sailboat models. The houses were one
piece, fit nicely, pleasing looking, had instrumentation, controls, stout,
good layout, strong enough for a cabin top traveller and ...

I really can't think of anything to troll with....today is Suzanne's
birthday and heavy rain will kill plans for a sail...ah well.
Cheers everyone!

Cockpit Cushions - Leather?29 Aug 2006 20:55 GMT10
I've priced out the cost of using USCG approved throwable cushions vs a
custom made set of closed cell cockpit cushions. Since my cockpit is 8 feet
in length I'll need 16 throwable cushions for the seat and 16 more for the
back rest. That is 32 cushions on my large, spacious ...
Good place for gun rack in cockpit?29 Aug 2006 18:41 GMT7
Since I sail in coastal and inland waters and the migratory bird hunting
season is coming up, I want to combine two of my favorite activities - duck
hunting and sailing.
Does anyone have good recommendations for the placement of a gun rack in the
trashed a J 100 tonight sail # USA 1129 Aug 2006 18:40 GMT85
The new sails are slick, the rudder flawless, Light winds-6-8 knots. I
wish I lost my old rudder a long time ago!
Anyone know what kind of boat has a red star on the sails? 20 something
footer?

City Isaland winter storage29 Aug 2006 17:56 GMT16
Looking for a place to haul for the winter on City Island. Got the contract
from Barron's Boat Yard, and I see that they insist on painting the bottom.
I'd rather do it myself. Any recommendations? Westchester or the Island
close to the City would also do.
