Anchoring technique30 Nov 2006 23:18 GMT16
I was in Tobermory at the end of the season and a large yacht (~55ft)
sailed across the bay (the wind was quite light) and dropped anchor
while still sailing downwind.
The anchor obviously bit, as they let out more chain as the yacht
Single handed reefing / sailing30 Nov 2006 20:55 GMT88
I want to rig my centaur for more single handed sailing. I always feel
particularly vulnerable working on deck alone hoisting - or lowering
sails.
I have a slab reefing system but I still have to go on deck to undo

Anyone know of a simple programme to practice lights sounds and rules
of the road. I seem to recall using one about three years ago. I think
it was A Dos programme. It gave you pictures and tested and scored It

La Ceiba!30 Nov 2006 14:31 GMT2
I'm completely geeked, leaving 1-1-07, if we make a timely passage plan to
check out the Mayan ruins at Copan before flying out of Guatemala City.

shooting praire dogs in Montana and claming it is a Candian Sniper
killing terrorists in Afganastan.

Milton Friedman RIP30 Nov 2006 11:58 GMT37
Milton Friedman has died at the age of 94. He won the Nobel Prize in
Economics in 1976 and was a strong advocate of Capitalism and limited
government.
Ellen Macarthur30 Nov 2006 09:14 GMT7
Ellen Macarthur's record-breaking trimaran (which was called B&Q) has been
away for a paint job and is now back on its berth in East Cowes Marina.,
painted plain white with no logos on and no name. I know B&Q did not renew
their sponsorship deal with her a few months back after ...

I'm breaking out the jingle bells, waxing the runners on the sleigh,

Epoxying a 21 footer29 Nov 2006 19:58 GMT22
Could anybody give me a ballpark figure on how much it would cost to have a
21' bilge keeled Corribee epoxied?
I assume this would involve stripping off the gelcoat, drying out to some
degree, and new epoxy gel coat.  Would this be then self coloured and not

2006 Hurricane Season Over29 Nov 2006 15:20 GMT14
Thankfully, the 2006 hurricane season is over. The same models and
scientists used for predicting global warming scenarios predicted one of the
worst, if not perhaps the worst, hurricane seasons in recorded history. No
less than 1/2 dozen major hurricanes were to sweep North ...
Hey Scotty !!!!29 Nov 2006 08:41 GMT5
Did you watch the Patriots Bear game?
It was an exciting game.  When you have two top defenses
playing, it makes sense to throw deep and often as an intercept
will push the opposing team back farther than a punt and punt
Back winded28 Nov 2006 21:51 GMT9
Argh!  I am a land lubber.  Cast off for the first time in a small 18
footer.  Tacking out I screw up, fail to make a turn, get back winded
and pushed into a docked boat.  That was a bad start.  The rest of the
trip was as sloppy but uneventful.
Recipe for Katy28 Nov 2006 19:37 GMT20
Dang it gets cold at night. As soon as the sun fell I knew
it was a ''baked beans night'' ( helps one keep warm ) . For
some reason I'm not allowed to eat them at home ( go
figure), so I keep a few cans in the boat. Thought this one
