Just read the liferaft capacity thread and thought I'd start a new

I was with a friend at the Southampton Boatshow, we walked around and
took a look at some boats that we hope to be able to afford in a few
years, i.e. 30-40 foot yachts. We also spoke to the people babysitting
those boats and asked them about features, special qualities of their

Strange aeroplane (slightly OT)28 Sep 2007 15:29 GMT30
Sailing down the Sound of Mull of few days ago a strange aeroplane flew

It was 4 engined, propellers, about half the size of a 737, painted mid grey
with no apparent markings (I couldn't even see a  number), whisper quiet,
Joe's half-arsed new business venture . .27 Sep 2007 19:04 GMT40
I say it's half-arsed simply because while his boat is making a two-way
trip only one way of the trip will potentially produce any profit. It is

wind direction!"
What I'm actually after is what sort of electronics goes into the mast
Too many toys27 Sep 2007 09:03 GMT41
At some point, you exceed the optimum number of "toys" so that your
ability to maintain them begins to exceed your time to use them.  I
believe this has happed to me.  With two small homebuilt sailboats and
a 28' S2 sailboat, a homebuilt dinghy, a 20' Tolman Skiff (homeebuilt)

Black cats and white paint27 Sep 2007 07:04 GMT12
JUST PAINTED THE OARS with expensive paint.  I went outside to make
sure no bugs had gotten onthem and they are covered with black cat
hair.  If I didnt like cats, there'd be one less on earth tonight.
Daysailor's Portable Stove -- JetBoil27 Sep 2007 07:00 GMT39
I often seem to find myself out on the water
and hungry because plans changed or the
wind died.  Since I'm often on small daysailers,
this presents a problem.
