Can "trying" really be considered an accomplishment? Or is trying just a
nice word that describes the beginning of a process but has little or no
inherent worth of its own?

For the past 10 years I enjoyed sailing/racing Albacore and Laser. However,

I sail at a small club on the south coast, launching from a mixed
shingle/sand beach. The haul back up to the club isn't too far, but
it's steep enough. I'm not all that strong so don't want a boat that's
too heavy.
