| Fox River, north Illinois are users? | 30 Jun 2004 22:00 GMT | 11 |
Any Fox River boaters from northern Illinois here? I just transplanted my boat from Wisconsin (closer to my home) and had a blast last two days of boating. Had a few questions, and curious if any one on this usenet group is using this river?

| Starting a 9.9 cold | 30 Jun 2004 20:30 GMT | 5 |
Just bought a brand-new Merc 9.9 4-stroke. When cold, it won't start at idle: I have to push the "high idle" button and give it some throttle. Is this normal, or should a brand-new engine start at idle, even when cold? Lloyd Sumpter

| Steering Adjustment on Sugar Sand Tango | 30 Jun 2004 20:03 GMT | 4 |
I am looking at purchasing a 1998 Sugar Sands Tango. The boat is in beautiful condition, and after a test drive I fell in love with it. The only problem that I foresee is the boat seems to pull to the right. I tested the boat in a river, and I found it difficult to keep

| Water in bottom end.. over and over | 30 Jun 2004 18:54 GMT | 6 |
I was wondering if anyone here was familiar with Yamaha outboard motors, specifically from the 90's, and of the 9.9 HP (although most I think are similar)... Here's my story, I've had my motor just over a year now (used motor), and

| "Porpoising" | 30 Jun 2004 15:36 GMT | 7 |
I just got a New Tracker Grizzly 1860. I have a 60 HP Mercury on it and I'm having a problem getting it to plane off. It wants to flop up and come down hard on the water. The dealer says the motor isn't getting "under" the boat enough, which I don't doubt. My question is, What is ...

Yes, for a limited time only, and for the first six who respond: A free 8x10 or larger glossy of your favorite hi-resolution boating or fishing photo. I had to buy a new color printer for ad and brochure proofs, and it

| How to rig an old sunfish | 30 Jun 2004 03:03 GMT | 1 |
I was recently given an old sunfish (probably from early 1970) and I've got some rigging questions. I downloaded the file from vanguard and this helped somewhat. First, how does the halyard attach to the upper boom? Is it just tied?

| Hone cyl on Johnson 35hp | 30 Jun 2004 02:45 GMT | 1 |
If I replace the piston rings, should I hone the cylinders? No damage to cylinders nor pistons as far as I can see. The cylinder walls are diagonally scratched otherwise almost as clear as a mirror. Previous hone job maybe?

| Mercury I/O problem. Replacing fin. | 30 Jun 2004 00:06 GMT | 5 |
I have to replace the little fin just above the prop on my Mercury Alpha One I/O. I understand its function is to counteract the natural tendency of a power boat to skew to one side. There is a little cap on the drive unit which pops off to provide access.

| Aftermarket Alpha Outdrives.... | 29 Jun 2004 22:36 GMT | 5 |
A few people, including myself, have inquired about aftermarket outdrives. Aside from postings from the represantatives of the companies that manufacture them, we have had no first hand postings on the subject, so I thought I'd offer up mine.

| 1980 Munro 16ft Fiberglass - Nose Dives | 29 Jun 2004 20:16 GMT | 9 |
Regardless of the angle that I position my motor (manual tilt adjustment) the front end of the boat dives low. Even when in the boat by myself the front end will not lift upwards much when accelerating and the motor is tilted up all the way. It has never even come close to

| new Merc 9.9hp - 4 stroke | 29 Jun 2004 18:40 GMT | 6 |
Mercury has just released a new very light 9.9hp - 4 stroke. It weighs 84# and has a handle for carrying. This is the lightest 4 stroke 9.9hp made right now. In many places in the world there are 10hp limits like on some of the lakes
