This is just a driveby folks - noticed all the pissing and moaning so
I'm doing my part to lighten things up.

    I have a 1996 Merc 4 stroke that I want to get
an rpm reading on for the purpose of setting up/choosing
a prop.  I have hooked a frequency meter up to
the tach signal.  I also looked at it on my oscilloscope

My mother has decided my dad needs a boat and of all things she placed a bit
on ebay for one.
She knows nothing about boats, and although my dad is a boat builder by
trade its going to be a surprize.

Is this normal? Is this just (multiple layers) of bad paint? Is this
aluminium in bad shape?
