if you knew you were going to be stranded at sea on a life raft for an
extended period of time (lets say, 30 days) with no help of outside aid
and had plenty of water but no food whatsoever, what equipment would
you take with you given that it was something you would have to be able
Overheating problems - getting more bizarre every day....31 Aug 2005 19:15 GMT7
If you have been reading here for the last 2 weeks, you may have come
across my 2 or 3 posts about my boat's overheating problems:
essentially, boat overheats for 3 to 5 minutes (at startup) and then
temp needle drops back to normal and everything is fine.  It is a raw

F & F Custom30 Aug 2005 15:06 GMT3
I'm trying to find out some information on a 1999 F & F Custom Boat
that is for sale in my area.  According to the owner, it is a 21', 1/4
plate aluminum, modified V hull, tiller steer fishing boat.  From the
outward appearance, this boat is built like a brick sh%t house and
trolling plate on 4 stroke30 Aug 2005 14:29 GMT4
Regarding 40 hp Yamaha 4 stroke on 14' Lund. I expressed a concern to
the dealer that I couldn't troll slow enough with a 40 hp for
trout/walleye etc. He suggested installing a trolling plate to slow the
boat down. Later however he mentioned that some people don't recommend
Wood rot30 Aug 2005 05:13 GMT1
Following up on the "what brand boat" thread, I thought I'd pass on my
(admittedly limited) understanding of rot. Wood is pretty durable stuff.
I've heard it called "nature's composite" and that's not a bad description.
The bulk of a wood cell is cellulose, which by itself ...
self furling jib on small cat?30 Aug 2005 04:19 GMT3
I own a 14' cat and have the chance to buy a nice self furling jib that
would fit it well.  tha cat currently has a standard jib on it.  would
it be silly to think about adding a self-furler?  I've been on yahcts
with self furlers before and it was sure nice being able to have the
Physics of paddlewheel vs. prop29 Aug 2005 14:22 GMT3
Can anybody in the NG factually and authoritatively address the
relative physics and mechanical efficiency of paddlewheel vs. propeller
as propulsion sources for larger, displacement speed watercraft?
Motor sounds like marbles and "diesels" after stopping29 Aug 2005 05:39 GMT9
I just had my 20 hour service on my new motor.  I'm no mechanic, so I had it
done by the Sea Ray dealer.  I mentioned to them that it had a difficult
first start once. Also it has been continuing to run ("dieseling") after
turning off the ignition.  They said everything checked ...

survey, mechanical survey, engine compression test and sea trial we took the

Fill up this weekend29 Aug 2005 02:15 GMT10
Wanna bet the hurricane is not going to blow up a bunch of oil rigs,
refineries and loading ports?
Not me.
This may be the $3.00 gas scenario they talk about ... like about
Anyone know??  Power Steering Pump - OMC 460 1988 Bayliner 265528 Aug 2005 22:07 GMT4
My v belt for the power Steering unit broke. I am having a hell of a time
figuring how to loosen the pump so I can install new belt. I got a line
drawing, and it seems to suggest that I loosen the whole bracket that bolts
to the block, and pivot it to get the new belt on and tighten ...
