| Oh oh - big storm... | 27 Aug 2008 21:18 GMT | 12 |
While Gustav is running around south of Cuba, I checked some of the modeling data - looks like over the next two weeks, we're looking at a lot of activity in the tropics - like an explosion of tropical depressions and storms. Nothing horrible except for one anomaly.

Talking about telescopes and boats makes me want to plug one of my favorite books, "Longitude" by Dava Sobel. it is roughly 10 yrs old and discusses the development of the first marine chronomator by a lone mechanical genius and how powerful men in the govt tried to deny

I called my insurance man about insurance for my 1979 22 ft Starcraft. He said anything under 175 HP was covered under the household insurance, and 170 HP was under the limit. Casady

I saw your comments about 'Oma's Toy'! Glad to see you liked it enough to discuss it. Actually, it was a pretty good deal. We were on our way to buy an Airstream Safari Sport at $39,000 or so, and decided to look at the Funfinder

Last year I bought an old boat with a 55 hp, twin cylinder. Idled fine but wouldn't open up. Rebuilt carbs and discovered that two screws came off the air box and were sucked into the reed valves on one carb, holding a reed open. Fixed that and engine ran fine. But next week ...

| Keelguard | 27 Aug 2008 11:42 GMT | 3 |
There are 2 major players in keel protection out there: Keelguard, and Keelshield. From what I can tell, they are both pretty much the same in both quality, and protection. My experience is with Keelguard. I beach my boat a lot. The kids like to get out on the shore and goof off,

Some of my employees want to buy a 4 axis CNC mill that they would put in my facility. I would have a share of this for giving them space. They have one customer lined up to make unusual pistol grips but they need more. So, I have been considering things near to my heart like

| Not going to Bimini | 27 Aug 2008 06:02 GMT | 1 |
OK, I have almost givng up my idea of going to Bimini on my 20'Tolman skiff. My entire reason for taking it was to use it to see the norhtern Bahamas. However, it is further from Bimini to West End than from Miami to Bimini, two major voyages may be a little extreme.
