Came across a 30-40 year old canvas and cedar canoe which maybe beyond particle professional restoration. Any advice the option of stripping off the canvas and covering with epoxy? Would only resin be enough? Would cloth be necessary?

| Hull speed theory? | 21 Jul 2003 23:48 GMT | 14 |
I have seen lots and lots of references to the formula "X times square root of waterline length" as defining hull speed with X normally about 1.3 (speed in knots, length in Imperial feet.) However, I have never seen an explanation of this.

| Segmented Mast for R. Nymph? | 21 Jul 2003 17:09 GMT | 4 |
Have my Rubens Nymph parts ready for assembly, all but the mast that is. A question came to mind a moment ago as I was looking at the plans for the mast: Since it's my intention to load this craft in the back of my pickup for transport to/from the water, a solid 16-foot mast ...

| An interesting Boat | 21 Jul 2003 00:11 GMT | 8 |
I saw an intersting boat along side the road the other day. Not sure if I want to get into it or not. Basically there was a fiber glass hull and a fiberglass deck laying on the ground with a for sale sign. It said it comes with a motor. What the heck I called the number to see ...

| Fabulous New Sailboat Disaster | 20 Jul 2003 15:32 GMT | 2 |
Here in Seattle, many of my friends have been working on a custom-made sailboat in the last couple years. About eighty-five feet long,16 foot draft, cold molded/carbon fiber hull, joinerwork of madrona, an anchor which cleverly stows itself below decks. Very nice work.

| battery installation | 20 Jul 2003 10:57 GMT | 2 |
How important is it for the battery in a boat (18.5, 90hp outboard) for the battery to sit flat on the floor? The replacement battery I just bought does not fit in the battery case, and I had to install with it sticking out at an angle.

| Learning curve... | 19 Jul 2003 14:51 GMT | 1 |
Has anyone else noticed that for a problem with boatbuilding is the feedback loop? That is to say that it could be anywhere from weeks to years to see if something works in a given application. Then I guess it depends on the application how long is good enough...
