Novice question on finishing23 Sep 2003 00:55 GMT3
I'm putting the final barrier coats of epoxy on my first S&G kayak and
have two questions some of the experiened folks here might know. I'm
using West Epoxy (105) with the 207 Hardener for the barrier coats.
How long do I have to wait before I can paint the hull?
equipment catalog23 Sep 2003 00:25 GMT2
I have a 1971 catalog from Samson Marine Design Group called "The Sailing
Seventies".  This thing has everything from designs, engines, line, etc. all
the way to lamps and stoves.  And everything has a price shown.  It would be
a great reference book when buying stuff if it ...
Does anyone know this boat??? (AKA my ideal design)22 Sep 2003 18:32 GMT4
A few pieces of background:  My wife and I want to buy a sailboat on which
we'll live full time and cruise the Caribbean and perhaps the Atlantic.
We'll be alone, but may have frequent guests of a couple and perhaps kids,
though most likely not.  Circumnav is not currently ...
Ply stability.22 Sep 2003 18:17 GMT12
I want to put together a stitch and glue boat. But cant afford to get all
the marine  ply at once.
If I start stitching the hull together, is it going to warp in the damp
British Autumn air, if I cant put the bulkheads in and glue it for a few
American White Oak vs Cedar in clinker construction22 Sep 2003 17:42 GMT15
I've just got a quote back from a company on planking stock.  The
White Oak came in at around £20 cheaper (negligible) and therefore
price is not a consideration.  The HMSO Handbooks of Hard and Soft
woods make the White Oak sound like a very good material, particularly
Boat Forum, a success after first week.22 Sep 2003 15:44 GMT3
Webmasters at Georgetown Online are understandably excited by the wooden

Forum. http://pub52.ezboard.com/fgeorgetownonlinefrm33
The figures are nothing short of astounding. They opened on the evening of

Poplar plywood19 Sep 2003 22:58 GMT3
I would like to know more about poplar plywood.
We did build a small test boat from it (our FL11) and in the shop it looks
like a great material.
It is light and strong, does not split, bends well and absorbs resin quite
Advice needed19 Sep 2003 21:45 GMT5
I am to begin building a  motor cruiser soon, just have to make a final
choice between a couple of plans I have been looking at. I live in the UK.
My question is about what to do when you have completed a boat. I presume I
need to get a safety certificate before I can launch the ...
UK Supplier of Fiberglass panels17 Sep 2003 22:10 GMT15
I am in the throws of deciding on a sailing cruiser to build and
perhaps more importantly which method of construction that I plan to
use prior to ordering plans.
Currently my preferences are either stitch and glue (as I have done
Paint for Fibreglass?17 Sep 2003 22:07 GMT2
I have a not particularly fancy Fibreglass dinghy which is in desperate
need of painting.  I'm not sure I can afford to pay £15/750ml of the stuff
that International or Blakes sell for yachts.
Is there a cheaper alternative?  Obviously household emulsion would be
Electric Propulsion17 Sep 2003 18:25 GMT13
Is there a simple equation between lbs thrust (as specified in electric
outboard motors) and Horsepower?
info needed on refurbishing aluminum housings, casings, covers and structural members too.....17 Sep 2003 03:17 GMT4
There are many aluminum components on my fiberglass sailboat such as
windvane components, electrical housings, mounting brackets, etc.; some
of which are of substantial thickness and size.
I'd like to improve their appearance and durability in a marine environment.
