epoxy thickener31 May 2004 23:08 GMT27
I have been working on Minicup #2 but ran out of colloidal silica
epoxy thickener and do not feel like driving all the way across town
to West marine.  So, I recalled some discussions about using talcum
powder or wood flour for this purpose.  First, I used some of my wifes

High Thrust vs. Low for Kicker31 May 2004 16:30 GMT3
I have a boat very similar to Glen-l's Eagle 22 ft. semi-displacement
lobster boat.  The main motor is a 110hp 2 stroke which gives me all
the power I need.  I also have a Yamaha 30hp 2 stroke kicker which I
use for low speed cruising at about 8-10 knots.  The kicker is mounted
Lee Engines31 May 2004 05:41 GMT2
I'm thinking of buying a 30 year old Cheoy Lee Trawler (40 ft).    It has a
set of 6 cylinder Lee engines.   They look like Ford Lyman (sp?)  anybody
know what they are?

bullet hole30 May 2004 21:45 GMT6
I live in a subdivision call College Acres Estates in northern
Indianapolis.  I had my boat setting in the drive as I reworked the
garage so that I could keep it there.  Someone decided that it was not
proper and shot it in the side.
SS screws and exterior plywood30 May 2004 18:36 GMT2
4 years ago I built a 22' center console, plywood / epoxy and during the
construction I asked a lot of questions here. Anyway one of the questions
was whether to use SS screws or silicon bronze. A lot of people said the SS
would develop crevice corrosion. I am doing some repairs and ...
Wooden Raft Construction30 May 2004 14:19 GMT1
I am currently planning to construct a wooden raft and taking a raft
trip on it. I wanted to just use about 12 logs to obtain all the
needed buoyancy for my comrade and myself and all of our gear, but I
figured that I might need to get some extra buoyancy so I was prepared
Nesting Dinghy30 May 2004 06:13 GMT3
I originally got started looking at boat plans because I wanted to
build a folding dinghy.  However, now I am not too enthusiastic about
folding ones and am interested in "nesting" ones.  However, the
nesting ones I have seen are fairly heavy and I have seen no plans for
23 ft Trailerable Pocket Cruiser30 May 2004 06:02 GMT4
I am in the process of deciding on a trailerable, comfortable cruising yacht
(ca 23 ft) and found the Vagabond 23 of Jacques Mertens and the Roberts 246
of Bruce Roberts.
I would be interested in contacting builders/owners who like to share their
Anyone know how to repair/rebuild a Mako transom? Or someone who can do it?29 May 2004 20:58 GMT2
I own a 20 or 21 foot Mako center console, late 1970's vintage.  The plywood
has delaminated at the top of the transom, both sides, but (as far as I can
tell) not in the center, where the motor is mounted.  The only estimate I have
for repair is unofficial but way too high (more ...
foam core29 May 2004 12:57 GMT10
I'd like to build a 4x10 fiberglass on foam core panel.  Medium to
light duty cover for a center well.  I plan to sit/row on top of it
and use it as a roof for a canvas cabin.  Can I use the blue or pink
closed cell foam from home depot or do I need special foam.
Power29 May 2004 05:17 GMT4
The question of what power has been raised recently, petrol, diesel.
electric, the latter brings into question from what source, IC.generators,
cover the boat with photo electric cells, the latter could form part of the
construction, then there are fuel cells these are well on their ...
epifanes PU varnish - why gloss under satin ?29 May 2004 01:40 GMT11
What is the drawback by using only PU satin varnish..?? I got a small
boat, and don't feel like buying double amount of varnish, just to get
satin look.
PS - anyone got a picture of a boat that has been varnished with
yanmar  ysb12 water pump28 May 2004 16:10 GMT2
My water pump drips proportionally with its speed. A replacement pump
is going to cost over $500
Has anyone found another pump that will do the same job on a ysb12?
