| ??? about anchoring to a sand beach | 08 Jul 2004 23:28 GMT | 9 |
Can anyone suggest a good way of anchoring to a sand beach? I drove a regular anchor in, and tied it down with a dog tie out screw. That seemed to work okay, but I'm afraid it might still pull loose if the wind gets too strong.

| Installing splash boards on small boat | 08 Jul 2004 00:04 GMT | 6 |
I built a Glen-L 14 a few years ago and only recently decided to install splash boards. I cut a compound miter on two pieces of mahogany to give it that forward sweep. Then I glued them end to end to form the V shape. I laid them on the deck of the boat and scribed the contour of ...

| Diagonals in lofting | 07 Jul 2004 12:37 GMT | 17 |
I'm considering building my own boat from a set of plans. It's nothing major, just a 28' round-bottomed cutter. I know, build a dingy first to sharpen my skills, then build the big one. Problem is, life's getting on and, with the reaper peeking at me from over the next hill, I'd ...

The keel bolts are stainless steel cast 1/2" into the lead keel in a kite pattern (5 bolts). The starboard bolt was heavily corroded around the nut - I tried to put washers in the corroded area and tighten the nut on the washers but the bolt broke.

| Air circulation under mattress | 07 Jul 2004 01:44 GMT | 7 |
There is an open mesh material maybe half inch thick made to lay under a mattress to allow air to circulate, however it is quite expensive. It looks somewhat like the washable mesh filters in HVAC systems. I have to believe there is some sort of common building material similar to ...

Has anyone worked with a carbon fiber/kevlar blend fabrics? Not quite sure what to think of them. Seems like it is a concept trying to combine 2 cloths with different characteristics into an overall better fabric. Intuitively, it doesn't

| 12V refrigeration | 04 Jul 2004 01:18 GMT | 19 |
I may even have it from somewhere before, but the recent conversations on reefers brought it to mind: Someone on these lists built a direct drive 12V compressor for refrigeration. My recollection has it connected to cold plates. It was
