Wow, finally a legimate "boat building" post, instead of a smart-a.s
remark...<G>
I just drilled, filled, caulked and bolted a pair of mid-ship cleats
using what I think is the best method
Trying to choose a design07 Aug 2004 14:52 GMT2
I'm trying to decide which boat to build. We'll be sailing mostly around
lakes here in Minnesota but we'd also like to take some trips to the
Ocean (Florida Key's, San Francisco Bay, Boston, etc.) as well as the
Great Lakes. It has to be trailerable and fun to sale.

Who has build Jim Michalak's Cubit?  Can you share your experiences
and/or photo's please? I'm thinking of building one myself but can't
find a lot of information.

Looking for plans of traditional Broads Cruiser06 Aug 2004 21:03 GMT2
We have many canals in eastern Canada as well as more navigable rivers than
we care to count.
I thought a river cruiser like a Broads Cruiser or similar design may be an
interesting project.

Tyvek sails06 Aug 2004 03:08 GMT2
I've been building the Mini Cup in my head since last year  ( lot's of room
in there ) .   The sail in the plan calls for Visqueen polyethylene ,
houses being built around here  have a stuff called Tyvek building wrap
covering all off the wood framing before the outside brick etc. ...
White Oak epoxy lamination05 Aug 2004 19:57 GMT11
Greetings group,  I was wondering if anyone has had any trouble with epoxy
glue and white oak.  I'm building several laminations here of thin white oak
to form frames, sheer clamps, stem etc. and I recently ran across something
in print that warned of glueing up oak in such a manner ...

catamaran exhaust location04 Aug 2004 13:19 GMT1
I am completing a 43ft motorsailing cat with 2 x 50hp diesels. Running
the wet exhausts thru the outside of the hulls is difficult, so it has
been suggested that they exit on the inside about 1/3 of the way from
the stern. I am concerned that fumes may come up over the stern into
Antifouling paint reacts with gloss paint. ARGHH!03 Aug 2004 23:31 GMT7
Now approaching what I thought might be the end of a six month rebuild of a
small wooden 'double ender'  18ft, I have painted from the bare wood with
'normal' enamel paints, ie aluminium primer, undercoats and gloss layers. I
began to apply the anitfouling paint as almost the last ...

lifespan of tugboats?02 Aug 2004 22:55 GMT13
I was looking thorough regulatory filings on a company which owns some
tugboats in Freeport in the Bahamas and read that these tugboats have a
life expectancy of 5 years. That seems a bit short, esepcially after all
the hassle I've got in this newsgroup over using exterior grade ...
Easypoxy paint02 Aug 2004 19:14 GMT5
I have a problem with paint on my rubrail. It was done in the past by the PO
with Easypoxy burgundy. Every time I was the boat the paint on the rubrail
must start to dissolve a small bit. It makes it look like a washing with red
paint. You would think after the rail had not been ...
Epoxy fairing compound and glassing hull02 Aug 2004 17:40 GMT16
I am helping a friend who is building a 35' motor trawler. It is planked
with marine ply and epoxy glued and it soon need fairing. Are there any
good commercially available epoxy fairing compounds in 5 gallon units?   He
is debating weather to fair the hull after the glass is laid ...
Preventing Rot ??02 Aug 2004 17:11 GMT20
That boat, as some may be tired of reading, is a 1958
Chris Craft. It's a plywood lapstrake hull. Mostly we
trailer it. When running there is a small leak and the
bilge gets an inch or so of water. Each time we pull
