What is the nicest 40-50 feet cruising/racing sailboat?24 Oct 2004 11:02 GMT1
I recently sailed a Swan 45 on a regatta. She was a true pleasure to
sail but expensive and not a very good cruising yacht. Another nice
boat is the Sweden Yacht 45 but that one is also really expensive. Do
you have any experience of other nice boats in that size?
More Minicup sailing23 Oct 2004 23:14 GMT1
Took the two Minicups sailing on Lake Hall yesterday.  All day there
had been great wind but by the time we got on the lake by 4:30 pm, it
was very light.  We had a few good puffs but when we tried to come
back in the wind totally died leaving us out in the middle without
Polyester or epoxy resin23 Oct 2004 19:13 GMT16
My old Nautilus 8 Dinghy was damaged by Ivan and has a sizeable hole
in the side.  I have some polyester resin on hand and I am wondering
if I can use it instead of expensive epoxy for a repair.  Other than
some sanding, how do I prepare the surface to make sure the resin
Marine safe glue23 Oct 2004 18:13 GMT15

But, sometimes other traits are wished for. Are there any marine performance

Fabric cover for Kayak23 Oct 2004 00:32 GMT14
I'm building a plywood (4mm Okume) kayak. I'd like to cover it with a
fabric; Dynel, polypropylene, or Xynole Polyester. I have the Defender
catalog but can't tell from the descriptions of these fabrics which
would be the best solution. I need a small amount so cost is not a
First boat refit trip and start of the casting-off process22 Oct 2004 19:40 GMT7
Last week, I went to commence work on our future home.  I'm a reasonable
day's drive from north of Atlanta to St. Pete, so I expect I'll make many
trips up and down the road in the course of accomplishing all we want to do
on her.  Nothing had been done, despite having already set ...

1950 Chris Craft22 Oct 2004 12:32 GMT2
I am re-painting and re-finishing a vintage mahogany ChrisCraft Double Cabin
Flybridge Cruiser.  I have been looking for above the waterline paints and
the strongest Varnish for the mahogany britework.  The boat is kept in the
water year round in New York, so it would have to be ...

Hi all, I'm a woodworker interested in building a wooden boat.
Does this NG have a FAQ I can start with? Google groups was of no help in
finding one.

the steering post is binding,..21 Oct 2004 10:44 GMT2
The problem seems to be that the steering post binds at the through
hull. Not a tremendous amount, I'm sure the mechanical advantage of
the quadrant, chains and gears compensate for it but my thought is
that this mechanism should work very smoothly to make less work for a
Mirrors?20 Oct 2004 15:36 GMT24
Anyone have suggestions for mirrors?  I need to set mirrors in the head
cabinet doors. Glass is just inherently dangerous on sailboats.  I have been
experimenting with acrylic mirrors but they  haze up very quickly.  Plate
glass mirrors are way to heavy.  Now I am thinking about a ...

Less Expensive Stainless Drawer Slides16 Oct 2004 21:53 GMT7
Thought I would pass this along for any of you considering full extention
drawer slides.  Rutu has 4 larger drawers under the bunks.  I had wanted to
use slides because opening large heavy drawers that might be swolen can be a
real problem but had given up on the idea because ...
