Hubs for oldboat trailer29 Jun 2005 20:49 GMT1
I am in search of a set of 4 on 4 hubs that have the 1" bearings riding
on a 2.925" spindle.  The hubs I have tried have been to deep leaving
the outer bearing on the threads not the 1" spindle.  I am hoping that
I don't have to have new spindles welded on to match the currently

boat docking instruction software28 Jun 2005 00:37 GMT2
We have developed a PC based program for teaching docking which
simulates the physics of different boats, the current and wind and
their interactions.
This has proved very useful in teaching my crew, and surprisingly, me

felucca hull and rudder shape27 Jun 2005 15:12 GMT2
I have been asked to build for a client a model of a modern Egyptian
felucca such as those used in Nile tours (25-35 feet long, single mast,
lateen-rigged).  I have not been able to locate plans or photos of a
modern felucca that show the hull and rudder shapes below the
cotter pins vs rings27 Jun 2005 06:46 GMT10
This is more of an encyclopedic rigging question, but perhaps someone
here could enlighten me:
is there a reason to choose a cotter pin over a cotter ring in any
application, or vice versa?

I know, I know, RTFM better next time... but what's going to happen.26 Jun 2005 05:12 GMT9
So I'm working away happily on my Stevenson's MiniCup.
I've just prepared two boards to joint them to make a piece of stock
wide enough to cut out the rudder blade.
They're from a nice piece of hardwood spotted sticking out of a skip
Need advice on marine paint25 Jun 2005 22:54 GMT1
I have a fiberglass boat with a faded, yucky green gelcoat stripe that I
want to paint.  In the past, I have painted boats with Imron but this is a
large boat and I don't have a trailer for it.  It's stored in my covered
boat house and is lifted out of the water so I can easily ...
Opinion on Power boat?25 Jun 2005 21:36 GMT1
I'd like to get a bunch of opinions on a power boat that may be coming into
my possession. It's a 30' off shore power boat hull. I'd like to know what
my drive options are and if anyone has opinions on the following. My idea is
not to go super fast so forget that, I live on the ...

Does my small sailboat need a boom?24 Jun 2005 20:55 GMT16
Warning: I also posted this question in rec.boats since I couldn't find
a sailboat specific newsgroup...
Newbie question:  I was  given an old, very small sailboat (just 8' or
9').  The hull was in a poor state but the sail and mast were in good
SAMS -  NAMS surveyor needed24 Jun 2005 17:29 GMT1
I bet you folks know the correct surveyor for an older non-perfect...not new
boat.  I need a surveyor that fully understands that large wooden
boats...even those that have been replanked and cold glassed...that are over
50 years old tend to have some soft/rotten wood and a few ...

The "professional" mechanic says the timing and compressioin are right
