King Starboard or alternatives?24 Aug 2005 06:31 GMT2
I've been given a 17" aluminum boat which needs the main deck replaced as
it has the usual soft spots on it that need to be repaired.
Somebody mentioned using King Starboard panels but they're very expensive.
What sort of alternative products would you recommend? Or would I be
That Funky Smell23 Aug 2005 00:37 GMT3
For my last couple of projects I've been using polyester resin with good
success.  Now I don't want to start the whole epoxy vs polyester vs
vinylester debate here and have a question about polyester.
On of my concerns is that I want to do the inside of the cabin of my next
Mast & Boom for SouthCoast 2222 Aug 2005 19:05 GMT7
My sons bought me a SouthCoast 22 hull at a bargain.
Sails yes - boom and mast no.
The mast is supposed to be 23 ft. the mast 9 ft.
So I started looking -  but they seem to run $500 on up -
Runabout: Batten seam planking or cold molding?22 Aug 2005 04:54 GMT4
I'm considering building a runabout and therefore I have some
questions:
Generally I stumbled over 2 plans: The plans from glen-l and the plans
from woodenboat. Glen-l suggests using the cold molding technique
Small portable refrigeration units22 Aug 2005 01:51 GMT4
I rented a mobile home with a small refrig. that used propane.  It was
very efficient and used little propane for a very cold unit.  I would
like to get more info on the construction, material, spec and etc of
one of these very efficient portable propane refrigerators.  Can

Vertical Windlass choices solicited17 Aug 2005 13:20 GMT19
Some of you may be aware that we had to saw out the old one in the
course of trying to service our antique Lewmar 1000 vertical drum/gypsy
windlass (follow the link in the sig - and follow the comments on the
first page - to see what's up with the refit).
Buoyancy Foam16 Aug 2005 18:41 GMT10
Just a quick question. Is polyurethane buoyancy/flotation foam in
aerosols the same as the polyurethane foam sold at builders merchants
for sealing voids and cracks etc?
The reason that I ask is that my local chandlery has aerosol foam that
Hackercraft Plans16 Aug 2005 00:52 GMT2
Does anyone know how I could go about getting a set of plans desined
by John Hacker in the early 50s?  I am restoring a 1963 utility that
was built from a set of purchased plans.  I actually saw the set of
plans that were used but they are in very poor shape.  I'd like to
stiff fabric?15 Aug 2005 22:40 GMT6
i'm out of date and i want to not layup a bicycle chain cover. one
suggestion was using window screen covered with foil. The idea led to
wondering if a fiberglass fabric was currently available that would
bend into shape and hold the set for resin, as window screen would.
HF antenna placement question14 Aug 2005 10:56 GMT55

As most of you know, we're in an extensive refit.  We're finally to the
point of addressing the stern of the boat.  Most of you know we added
an arch, on which we've put wind and solar, satellite, gps and vhf
Nautical component; name??14 Aug 2005 04:53 GMT11
--Found this at a junkyard; although my application isn't likely
to be anywhere near water (except rain!), rumor has it this may be nautical
in origin, but nobody seems to know the proper name for it or whether or not
they might still be available somewhere. First three photos ...
