Anyone out there with any recommendations or information on a transport company that can haul our heavy displacement full keel 40' sailboat from Corpus Christi, Texas to Los Angeles, California? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

| Questions about resorcinol (waterproof) glue (made by DAP/Weldwood) | 12 Aug 2005 17:35 GMT | 12 |
I've got some 6x6 spruce fence posts that I'm applying finished planks of 15/16" pine to cover the exposed part of the post (front, back, and a little of the sides). I'm using a *few* brass screws to hold the planks to the post, while a water-proof glue will bond the planks to

| test a depth sounder out of the water? | 10 Aug 2005 17:31 GMT | 5 |
ahoy. I have a new2me, never been wet boat on the hard. Is there a way to see if the depth sounder works? The readout thing powers up if you hook 12v to it. Can you somehow test the transponder widget? thanks as always and smooth sailing.

| How would you start a boat building hobby? | 09 Aug 2005 06:59 GMT | 13 |
I have posted before regarding building/restoring an antique boat. Just a curious question to the experienced builders... How would you start your hobby if you were really interested in learning how to build a nice boat? I have the $$, space, and woodworking skill. Just ...

| Last day on the boat | 09 Aug 2005 02:32 GMT | 12 |
Well, today is my last day - we head out tomorrow to go home for my operation, which will keep me off the boat for several months. However, lots has happened in the last couple of days. The platform is up.

| foam backed marine vinyl | 09 Aug 2005 02:02 GMT | 7 |
I wonder if anyone can recommend a source for good, relatively thick (about 1/8") foam-backed vinyl? Mail / online order is OK, but if in the Seattle area or Western Washington that's even better ~~

| Battery Tray | 08 Aug 2005 13:30 GMT | 8 |
Thanks to the group for advice on my last post about my propane sniffer meltdown. Sniffer is now replaced, remounted, rewired (with fuse.) On to the next project: My 1978 Catalina 30 has a painted wood battery tray which is basically crumbling with wet rot.

| patch job | 07 Aug 2005 18:38 GMT | 4 |
I'm doing a patch job to the underside of a fibreglass driftboat with fibreglass matt and roving material (weave). What is applied first after the area is wetted down woth expoxy resin - the matt or the weave?

| old aluminum boat | 07 Aug 2005 16:34 GMT | 1 |
I just bought an old 14ft. aluminum boat and I want to seal the rivets to prevent leaking. What should I use? Will a high quality silicone work? Should I seal them from the inside or outside of the hull? Also, do aluminum boats weaken with age? Mine is about 30 some years old.

| Laser sailboat paleontology | 04 Aug 2005 19:07 GMT | 8 |
I am rebuilding a Laser sailboat made in 1975. I had a bare hull with NO fittings at all on it, mast, boom, a sail, dagger board, broken rudder, and a box full of blocks from various boats, some may be Laser parts. So far, I have replaced the deck acess port, self bailer,

| Newbie build question | 03 Aug 2005 18:43 GMT | 6 |
I am going to build a kayak to begin to learn how to build boats. Dumb newbie question for you. On a stitch and glue kit, when you fiberglass it, how does the stained wood come through the fiberglass?? For the pictures I see on the pygmy and clc sites, it looks like the wood is

| Yanmar 3GM30 battery connections | 02 Aug 2005 07:15 GMT | 4 |
I was wiring up a used Yanmar 3GM30F engine and couldn't find a place for the negative battery connection. The positive goes to the starter solenoid but there was not an obvious stud for the negative cable. Usually I've seen them

| 1973 Aquasport | 02 Aug 2005 05:30 GMT | 6 |
I have a 1973 Aquasport 22' CC with a Merc 125 Saltwater. I love it and want to bring it back to its original condition or better. They were extremely common boats here (Cape Cod) years ago. The 3 most popular boats at the time were Mako, Aquasport and Boston Whalers.
