Nesting dinghy clamps14 Nov 2005 18:03 GMT2
In the course of building my Tolman Skiff, I bought two new large "C"
clamps for about $10.00 each.  When I got home, I found they are of an
unusual design.  They have a push button that allows the screw to slide
until released and then you tighten it normally.  They also seem to be
Tolman Skiff14 Nov 2005 02:20 GMT1
I seem to have underestimated the level of effort required for this
project but I will do it anyway.  Following the book, I am at the point
of lofting the shelves.  Its going to be awhile before I have anything
that resembles a boat so I can convince my wife I am doing more than
Greasing rudder post13 Nov 2005 10:15 GMT2
I am reinstalling the rudder on my 25-footer. The rudder post is bronze tube
riding inside a second bronze tube permanently installed in the hull. There
was no evidence of grease on either when it was removed. Should it be
greased before reinstalling?

1:3, 1:4, etc....

Building a small Catamaran using pine and spruce.12 Nov 2005 01:24 GMT4
No, I am not crazy.
The year is ending in cottage country and I just finished building a 8 by 8
walk-in closet, this let me finally clean up my cabin, use up the lumber and
plywood I had lying around the place and generally get organized.
masthead corrosion,..10 Nov 2005 21:20 GMT1
Ahoy, the aluminum mast is down and on two saw horses. There are small
deposits of white flakey powder at each of the stainless rivets that
fasten the stainless masthead (very stout looking) on. I can't see
that it's pitted much after scraping it off. What is the procedure

closing in here.  So I realize I won't be able to start

hardware within driving distance of Philadelphia, PA?

pipe brackets I've seen on the net do not have a
Getting foam out of mast!08 Nov 2005 04:28 GMT11
There's been lots of talk about putting foam in Ally masts - any ideas
on getting it out - previous owner of boat foamed in wires - PU foam
injected through 1/4" holes at about 6ft intervals. I now want to
replace these, and revert to internal halyards. Mast is 28 ft and only
Pressure treated plywood08 Nov 2005 03:14 GMT7
Has anyone had any experience using pressure treated plywood for a marine
application.  I'm putting a floor in an aluminium fishing boat (that will be
covered with vinyl) and I wondered if this product would do the job.
Thanks in advance
How to Repair the Bottom of a 1,000-lb Boat?07 Nov 2005 16:57 GMT19
I am wondering how people get access to the bottom of a boat for
repair. If the boat is light, we can simply turn it upside down. But if
the boat is around 1,000-lb, I doubt that we can turn it upside down
just by manpower. Unfortunately, in a home environment, we don't have
Cutting scarfs07 Nov 2005 15:08 GMT23
Started working on my Tolman Skiff.  I began by cutting the bottom
pieces from 1/2 marine ply but these have to be scarfed together to
make longer pieces.  The specified angle is 8.1 degrees and the
directions describe a scarfing jig to be made with a circular saw but
