Epoxy over fairing compound?31 May 2006 16:56 GMT12
Hey all,
I'm the final stages of prepping a hull for painting. I've finsished
with sanding and fairing and have some large patches of fairing
compound, made out of epoxy and micoballoons, on the hull. Do I have to
What Size "Canoe Joint" Shaper Cutters?31 May 2006 16:42 GMT4
All the woodworking catalogs that I get show canoe joint router bits but
make no mention of shaper cutters. What size cove and bead set do you
folks recommend that I look for and who do you prefer to buy them from?
I have recently inherited an older Craftsman shaper.
Glenn's RUTU31 May 2006 02:27 GMT1
It's been years since I've heard anything about Glenn Ashmore's RUTU.
I keep going to the site hoping to see an update but always...that last
update says 4/12/04.
Today though, I find the old rec.boats.building I used to be a member

Some teak questions27 May 2006 05:54 GMT4
I just bought a Columbia 23 sailboat. It needs some work on the faded
teak and the barebones interior could use some sprucing up. I'm new to
this kinda thing and have been confused a little. I've seen pictures on
websites of teak that has been sanded to good wood and treated with ...

saving a sunk 1959 CC SeaSkiff.24 May 2006 15:57 GMT3
The recent Merrimack River floods have claimed my 1959 CC SeaSkiff. Twin
427's, Carter carbs, Paragons, etc. The water did NOT hit the gages..
but came within  inches. Engines were pickled 3 years ago... Water has
receded and I'm about to drain and fire them up... drain... etc...
I saw a Bateau boat on the road the day before yesterday.23 May 2006 17:15 GMT8
It was pretty cool.  Not the prettiest boat I ever saw, but I was impressed
with how firm that little boat was.
I was pulling into a little sporting goods store, and the fellow pulling the
boat pulled into the gas station out front.  I just had to go out and chat
History of birdsmouth masts?22 May 2006 16:20 GMT5
Does anyone know how old birdsmouth masts are (or anything using
birdsmouth jointery, really)?
I did some looking around, and didn't find anything that listed
anything similar to historical relavance, and I am always curious about
any pix of a quadrant/cable steering system out there?22 May 2006 15:57 GMT1
I have the simplest one; wheel with chain going to cable/pulleys and
around the quadrant. Just can't see how to attached the cables to the
quadrant. Is there a picture of one that's installed and working- that
isn't in pieces? Thank you.

My first canoe, how big?19 May 2006 13:15 GMT5
I'm an IT Consultant and am considering a new hobby to take up a little
bit of my time.  I'm thinking about building a canoe.  Am I better to
buy just the plans, or a whole kit with forms?  I have about 5 hours a
week that I could honestly put into the work but would like to see ...
