I would like to know the right way to lay down layers of fiberglass
clothes over a tapered edge of a fiberglass skin of a deck.  Should I
lay down the largest piece first or the smallest piece of fiberglass
cloth first?

for going up stream with my canoe. I just want to attach it to the side of
the canoe via some sort of c clamp sliding mechanism. Is there a kit out
there you can buy or a web page someone can point me to! ...

I have an old Cruise 'n Carry 2.75HP motor that I use on a canoe.  It is
nice in that it weighs about 18lbs and runs for about 2 hrs on a 1 qt tank.
I think it'll run forever.
The fuel valve has given up the ghost.  It has a 1/2" inlet and an 1/8"

Sewing Machin ,, Sailing ,,, cloth repairs question16 Jul 2006 04:39 GMT9
I have been reading Don Casey's book about repair, and upkeep of sailing
yachts.  He recommends getting a sewing machine so that sails, covers,
dodgers, etc can be repaired, made etc by the boat owner.
I don't know anything about sewing machines.
'87 Searay Slipping15 Jul 2006 13:36 GMT7
There are two possibilities that come to mind.  The prop has a neropreme
insert between the splined coupling and the propeller to absorb shock.  They
sometimes wear out and cause slippage as you mention. In which case a prop
shop can install a replacement insert.   The other and ...

316 and 304 steel - whats the difference?13 Jul 2006 09:12 GMT11
Hi, I need a forestay attatchment for my boat, someone has proposed
304 stainless steel instead of 316. As its a pretty important part of
my rig, I'm a bit dubious, but I don't know if its any more likely to
be corroded. A lot of it will be buried in the stem, but a lot of it
Need help with rudder.(floating away)12 Jul 2006 23:50 GMT3
Im a first time boat builder and sailor. Yesterday was launch day...all went
well, until the sail went up and the Teal took off, faster than I expected.

So where are the boatbuilders hanging out online these days?11 Jul 2006 19:37 GMT5
When I was building my boat (in the 1990s) this forum was a hotbed of
discussion and information. Just got back here to rec.boats.building a
couple of months ago.
It seems quite 'quiet' (to be polite) - is there some other
Does Toggle Bolt Strong Enough to Bolt Down a Seat?11 Jul 2006 17:25 GMT13
I would like to know whether eight toggle bolts (such as the one from
FASCO Fastener) are strong enough for bolting down a seat (like a
seat/cooler combo unit).  Currently, the seat is only screwed into the
core material of my deck and the core material is totally rottened.  I

something's slipping11 Jul 2006 05:15 GMT2
I have an 87 model 21' Searay 350 I/O and recently when I give it full
throttle, it's like something slips. The engine revs and the boat
starts to go, but then the boat drops and the engine revs even more. It
seems to operate OK at lower power if I don't push it.
