hesitant buyer of wooden boat31 Aug 2006 05:54 GMT13
I have recently found an old (1960's?) Penn Yan boat, I think
about 21 ft. Under the false floor I can see that the ribs are rotting
as there is 1/2" of standing water in the boat. It looks to me like the
work to restore this and actually float it would be endless, though it
How to store integral gas fuel tank during work?29 Aug 2006 17:33 GMT8

I have acquired a small runabout that needs some work.  Gonna work on
upholstery, etc. for the next winter, and perhaps longer...  :-)
She runs OK at present, and has an integral gas fuel tank in the floor.
how to make launching wheels for small boat????29 Aug 2006 16:49 GMT9
We're going to be heading down to Baja in a couple months and plan to
bring our 10' inflatable boat along.  It weights somewhere around 100
lbs and I'm planning on launching it over the beach.  My problem is
that hubby had a stroke a few years ago and I'll have to do it myself.

Each batten is plastic and about 35 mm wide by 4mm thick.
Three of them; about one metre long.
Have made some identical battens from Canadian spruce.

I have some McCloskey "Man-o-War" that I want to use

the desert where daytime temps are generally over 100
degrees F for 3-4 months of the year (up to 118 degrees),

Getting to the bottom of it...  (Ablative question)25 Aug 2006 04:12 GMT21
As many of you know, we're close to splashing our 2-year refit.  It was
newly ablative bottom painted when we bought it.
A local asserts that the bottom paint is dead, and it will have to be
redone.
circuit for running two bulbs from one run of 2 conductor wire?24 Aug 2006 19:46 GMT10
I saw this once using an off-on-off 3 pole switch (? it had 6 lugs)
and some diodes but I can't remember where. The switch is connected to
a 2 conductor wire that goes to a lense with two different bulbs in
it. In one switch position one bulb lights, in the other position the

Lengthing an 11 foot Sailboat21 Aug 2006 22:58 GMT12
If I added 2 feet to an 11 foot sailboat  with a 5 foot beam, what else
would have to be changed in addition to adding an extra frame. Thanks,
Ted in Mich.
scarf jig21 Aug 2006 03:29 GMT5
I am building an Arch davis design Penobscot 14 and I am at the point
to scarf plywood for the panels.  I am hoping there is a jig design to
cut the scarfs on 1/4" plywood.  I have seen jig for circular saws,
but I hoping there is a system to use with a laminate trimmer or a
Deck renovation ideas?19 Aug 2006 09:45 GMT7
A pal of mine is renovating a 1950s wooden 42-footer originally built
as a trawler but later fitted with a gaff rig.
He's currently tackling the deck, which is in a pretty rough state.
It's covered in old anti-fouling paint which is peeling and needs
PWC Hull modification question18 Aug 2006 16:15 GMT2
New to the group, but it seems like this is a place with enough
expertise to answer the question I have. I'm attempting to make an
aqua-trailer for camping and exploring behind my personal watercraft.
Something similar to this http://www.hydrotrailer.com/index.html .
