SS Tubing Thickness for Bow Rail31 Jan 2007 20:18 GMT2
I am having my bow rail on a Morgan OI41 remade.  What is the best
grade of stainless for this, i.e., 304, 316, 318, etc.  I am using 1"
tubing.  What should the wall thickness be?  Is 16 ga. (.065) OK or
should it be heavier?  Thanks.
Fixing Liferaft chocks to deck31 Jan 2007 20:11 GMT2
I am trying to find a way for installing a liferaft on our Halcyon 27.
I only have the space to store it on deck and was planning to fix chocks
to the foredeck for the canister. However there is a fixed grp
headliner beneath so I have no access to install a backing pad and bolt

the same or nearly the same adhesive properties as 205, 206, et al?
Thanks.

Airex cored hull27 Jan 2007 23:01 GMT2
Someone once told me his airex cored hull tested "wet". What does this
mean? I thought water couldn't go anywhere in airex and if the glass is
properly bonded, it ain't going that route either! I don't get it. And
if there was some water in there, so what?

Opinion, Recommendation, Good ideas, for doing Canvass Work .. WANTED26 Jan 2007 06:25 GMT1
Just bought my first sewing machine.  An old metal machine.  I am planning
on doing some canvass projects for my sailboat.
The reason I purchased the machine and got started on this is Don Casey.
He, in his many books, recommends doing numerous canvass projects as part of

low ratio self tailing winches?21 Jan 2007 21:14 GMT6
has anyone heard of low ratio (say, 6:1) self tailing winches?  I really
dont need a high powered wicnh for my boat, but it sure would be nice to

a bit easier as i mostly sail solo.  The offerings ive ...
Removing silicone residue20 Jan 2007 08:47 GMT12
Actually this is not on a boat, but same principles will apply.
I need to reglue--with epoxy I hope--something that appears to have been
glued with silicone. I recall reading of a solution that could be used to
wash the silicone residue that would otherwise prevent good adhesion. ...
Bamboo building material18 Jan 2007 18:17 GMT2
I am working on an outrigger sailing canoe and I am considering using Bamboo
for a building material for a few parts.  The designer states that this is
adviseable if suitable material can be found, and has used this material in
some of his boats.  He does not give any recomendations ...
