Wiring Anodes13 Feb 2007 17:32 GMT1
Is it necessary to wire the anode to the keel? The reason I ask is
that I have a zinc anode connected to the engine & the prop but not
the keel. When I put a volt meter from the keel bolt to the engine I
got a smal reading, about .5volt!

Shaft Log / Cutlass Bearing - tight fit...?12 Feb 2007 10:58 GMT9
My new Buck Algonquin bronze shaft log is advertised as being bored to
accept a 1.5" cutlass bearing.  My new Duramax cutlass bearing is
advertised as having an outside diameter od 1.5" (to accommodate a 1"
prop shaft).
boat insulation11 Feb 2007 07:38 GMT5
I am guessing that standard home insulation is not the normal for boats due
to trapped moisture and mold.
What should I use and where should I buy from?

DIY refrigerator in sailboat10 Feb 2007 06:35 GMT13
I'm building a 26 foot pilothouse sloop and the plans call for a large
icebox.  My experience doing the kind of cruising I expect to do on
this boat is that finding ice consumes a lot of time, it doesn't last
long, it takes up a lot of space, and the food items can get soggy if
Most People Will Never Know About Biodiesel10 Feb 2007 05:08 GMT20
What kind of difference can the use biodiesel make when it comes to
changing the world for the better? Perhaps the biggest impact of the
use of biodiesel fuel instead of just plain diesel is on the human
health and the environment.

Caulking a teak strip deck06 Feb 2007 01:33 GMT4
Can anyone tell me if it is necesary to use the bond breaking tape
between slats? The 6mm (square edge, not rebated) strips have been
laid onto a  ply deck using epoxy with 5mm spacers. The problem for me
is that my suppliers don't sell the stuff (ok I can get around that)
Best way to remove swirl and burn marks on chrome?05 Feb 2007 08:55 GMT5
Does anyone know a very good way to do this? I tried using tripole and it
just made it worse. I had a few scratches and I thought I could use that to
remove them but I ended up with burn(I think thats what its called) and
swirl marks.

Electric trolling motors03 Feb 2007 15:20 GMT7
Both Minnkota and Motor Guide produce electric trolling motors big
enough to use as auxiliaries on small sailboats. Has anyone tried
running these motors as generators to charge the on-board batteries?
Does anyone know the motor configuration (permanent magnet, shunt wound,
