Copper tubing and sea water31 Jul 2007 21:22 GMT15
I am thinking of using plain old copper tubing (the type you get from
Home Depot) to cool the winding section of a a generator by wrapping a
few turns of the copper tubing around the casing and then pumping sea
water directly around the tubing.  Can anyone advise whether this is

Motorise manual anchor winch29 Jul 2007 06:45 GMT3
I have a traditional dutch anchor winch with two speeds a chain gypsy
- vertical - and a drum end. One shaft has a sprocket wheel to enable
it to be motorised. I have decided to go electric and would like to
fit an electric motor. The winch maker recommends 750 - 1kW at 50-60
Intersted in building a tri using hobie cat hulls28 Jul 2007 23:29 GMT9
I have a free hobie 18 foot cat without sails but with mast boom. The
Tramp would need to be replaced. The hulls are solid. I have been
trying to come with ideas with what to do with it.
I built a puddle duck racer and thought of making a trimaran using the

It's All True20 Jul 2007 23:49 GMT3
Got Orson Wells' film "It's All True" on VHS from the public library.
Documents a trip by four fishermen along the coast of Brazil in 1941
on a sailing raft. Interesting shots of raft construction details and
under sail. I've seen drawings of the rafts which are steered by
Sliding Portlights20 Jul 2007 13:40 GMT2
I own a 1976 31' Harstad Motor Sailor.  It has two large sliding
windows in the main cabin which used to slide.  However, one of the
previous owners siliconed these closed because the felt sliding rotted
away and the rubber splines became dry rotted.  I would love to

plastic barrels and floating docks19 Jul 2007 21:15 GMT22
I am going to build some floating docks but before I re-invent the
wheel I would like to get some opinions. They will be 16' long by 3'
wide and at either end I would put a plastic barrel under it, inside
the frame. The frame would be 2X8 rough sawn Juniper and the decking

ready to put some boat on my boat12 Jul 2007 20:00 GMT49
So I have posted here in the past about my outrigger sailing canoe
project but have not had much time to post progress updates.
First, we are going with 27' long.  The plans use this as the example
of measurements for stretching the hull so the math is much easier
Interior of wooden motoryacht hulls11 Jul 2007 22:07 GMT11
I am a recent graduate of Chapman's School of Seamanship Marine
Surveyor course. One of the things I was looking forward to learning
about was the treatment of rot in wooden hulls. The school didn't
spend much time on it because (and it's true) the majority of the
Wind cup wheel for Navico Corus masthead unit11 Jul 2007 13:03 GMT1
It seems that virtually no spare parts for the old Navico Corus
masthead unit, especially the wind cup wheel, are available. Does
anybody know about a source?
A few calls to local and regional dealers were disappointing.
