Dinghy tow line30 Jun 2004 23:53 GMT17
What is the best line for towing a dinghy?
I have seen somewhere on the net a multifilament polypropylene dinghy tow
rope that looks a lot like braided line but it is poly and floats. Assume
this would be good. But can't seem to find it. If I recall it was yellow

Water tank vent overboard or bilge29 Jun 2004 22:56 GMT17
I have been mulling over the idea of re-routing my water tank vents
from the bilge to an overboard thru-hull vent.  I would like to stop
from filling my bilge with water everytime i fill my tanks.
Some people have expressed concern that it opens up the risk of

Anyone know how an oil pump draws a prime?29 Jun 2004 21:12 GMT21
genee/rickie claim that oil pumps have to spin for some time to draw a prime.
I am trying to visualize how an oil pump draws a prime, particularly on oil at
say 15 degrees.  In order to draw a prime the pump would have to evacuate the
air above the oil and below the pump, the ...

gene/rickie, take a look at the bearing that bears the legion (big words, I
know, but deal with it)

without oil pressure (which can be as high as 6,000-8000 psi), the journal
Looking for sailing and cruising logs29 Jun 2004 03:17 GMT2
I am trying to keep up a list of sailing and cruising logs on the net
at http://cruisenews.net .  The current logs are in the Ships at Sea
section, and the past logs are in the Voyage Logs section.
Do you know of any sailing and cruising websites online which should
Bolt/luff tape with Foil, or hanks?28 Jun 2004 01:02 GMT5
So this Hunter 33' was a liveaboard, everything on that end "works," but
it hasn't been sailed for a long time and when it was there looks to be
some slightly, um irregular items used.
Anyway, it doesn't have a roller furling, but it has a (foil)? on the
Intra-coastal waterway navigation27 Jun 2004 19:16 GMT19
Recently visited the Keys via boat. While navigating the Intra-coastal
I notice that the green-red channel markers were backwards from all my
other boating experience(inland). Does anyone know the logic behind
this or can tell me where I went wrong in my thinking?

Loss pf Power problem with Yanmar Engine26 Jun 2004 17:02 GMT3
I have a 50 HP 4JH engine which is suffering about a 30-40% loss of
power.  I cleaned the fuel, changed the Racor and the engine filter,
and cleaned the fuel injectors. THe engine will run up to 3500 RPM in
neutral but in forward or reverse only about to 1500 RPM, thus I am

Nova Scotia Bareboat Charter?24 Jun 2004 23:14 GMT4
I was thinking of doing some sailing in Nova Scotia this summer, but I've been
unable to locate any place that charters bareboat sailboats.  I found some
references to places that don't seem to be in business anymore.  I contacted a
couple of tourist agencies to no avail.  Anyone ...
