This is a serious question even if it is a little unusual, if you are
a liveaboard how do you get post or mail? Do you have a PO box, or
something? If your moving constantly how do people send you things? or
don't they? Is it a life free from junk mail????

Hear "Nautical Talk Radio" - Sailing to the Med, Red, & Dead Seas 29 Nov 2004 21:36 GMT2
Listen to this week's boating radio program featuring a sailing couple who keep
their 47 foot sailboat in Turkey for the winter. This past summer, they sailed
to 7 countries (Northern and Southern Cypress, Lybia, Syria, Israel, Jordan,
and Egypt) in 6 weeks. You might be surprised ...
anti-fouling paint on aluminum bottoms29 Nov 2004 19:46 GMT3
Applying anti fouling paint to aluminum bottoms is tedious at best.  All sorts of cleaners, etchers, primers, etc.  Has anyone tried painting on a couple coats of a good exterior latex over the aluminum, to provide an electrolytic insulator, and slapping on the antifouling over ...

LED's for running lights?29 Nov 2004 17:41 GMT2
Any info on this? The 12v single water clear led's are $1.67 and put
out 11000 or 3300 mcd, whatever that is, some measure of how bright
they are. The viewing angle is 30 or 60 degrees. The attraction is
that current draw is almost nothing. I measured .023 amps for a single

Boat vs Auto GPS28 Nov 2004 13:16 GMT15
I keep reading about GPS for boats and how innacurate it can be.
Why is the same not innacurate in cars?
My car GPS is so accurate it tells me I am on the white line at a
traffic signal stop light or in my driveway.

Fiberglass Roll27 Nov 2004 22:24 GMT5
I am looking for a home in the USA for a roll of fiberglass ( about 6oz
bi-directional, epoxy and polyester compatible, 1779 yards long X 44" wide ).
I am thinking of various ideas that would be very mutually beneficial but am
open to any other thoughts -- think laterally on this ...
More documentation questions26 Nov 2004 19:48 GMT4
Let's say I bought a five net ton boat to transport paying customers on
the Great Lakes out and back from the same location, not from one
location to another. These would be marketed as daytime or weekend
cruises, not fishing trips, although I could imagine someone might want
Universal Diesel Idle26 Nov 2004 18:28 GMT6
11hp, 2 cyl. Runs fine at speed and idles smoothly but it dies when
reversed at low speeds; and when speeding up from an idle it's very
sluggish. What could be wrong?

Astra IIIB Sextant25 Nov 2004 20:30 GMT178
To any celestial navigators still out there:
The recent improvement of the Canada/U.S. exchange rate is persuading
me that the time to buy a sextant is approaching. I plan on world
cruising in a few years and just as I wouldn't have an autopilot
VHF Radio question25 Nov 2004 03:41 GMT8
My VHF began displaying some peculiar behavior at the end of the season.
When it's turned on, it seems to work for about a second, and then goes
silent. Don't know whether the problem is in the radio, or someplace in the
electric or antenna connections. I'm reluctant to buy a new ...
