I'm about to buy a 32 foot, 4 foot draft, boat in Patchogue, New York and
will need to get it back to Maine in the spring.  I'd like to use the
opportunity to explore some of the inside passages of this area.  The Coast
Pilot mentions frequent shoaling and some of the bascule ...
Boater operator certificate22 Nov 2004 23:07 GMT43
Washington state wants to institute a revamped law to require boating
drivers licenses. To those in states who have such laws, what are the pros
and cons of your system and does it prevent accidents etc or is it just
another red tape gizmo to collect money for the state?
Why So Few "Old" Sailors?22 Nov 2004 21:12 GMT6
Looking back, way back, all of my sailor friends and acquantaces were
my age or close to it, young, energetic, and adventurous. Now, just
having made it to 70, I find that only two long time friends still
sail, but both only infrequently. Too arduous? Too risky? End of

My wife and I would like to take a cruise and learn in the caribbean this

while the actuall sailing seems to be slightly cheaper in Grenada but
airfairs are more.  What is the post-hurricane situation like? ...

Today I was accelerating out of the Boca Raton, FL inlet in my 2600
Martinique and just as I came off about 10 knots, the motor made a loud
noise and there was a loss of power.  I immediately put the throttle into
neutral but the motor kept running and everything seemed fine.  I ...

Holding Tank Vent Larger than 5/8?22 Nov 2004 07:42 GMT3
I'm planning to install a new holding tank system in my 1959 Pearson
Triton Yawl. According to Peggy Hall in "Get Rid Of Boat Odors" it is
recommended that the vent in a holding tank be 1".  But the standard
for 20 gallon tanks seems to be 5/8". It is better to cut a new 1"

As I'll be moving my boat most likely to either NC or SC in the spring, I'd
like to find out who has the best coverage for that area?

Foul Weather gear for $70 at costco.20 Nov 2004 22:19 GMT7
It's a 2 piece nylon suit, in red with black trim.  Made in China, all the
features you would expect, probably OK for coastal cruising, but certainly not
offshore stuff.
My jacket has some bad stitching and I will try to swap it for a better suit

mainly stay on the Hawk Channel side...
Thanks!
Crusader 8.1 Captain's Choice: IGNITION20 Nov 2004 04:43 GMT2
Has anyone heard of problems with Crusader's 8.1L Captain's Choice
engines' ignition?  I have been told that I should reconsider getting
crusaders for repower because of this.
Death nell for 2 cycle outboards?19 Nov 2004 23:35 GMT15
I was told by a mechanic at a local marina today that  all major mfj's are
going four cycle which is fine with me. But one reason why is because EPA
emmision standards will be stamping out new production of 2-cycle outboards.
AND in a couple years  2-cycle outboards, especially ...
