| Navico TP 5500 problem..help! | 30 Jun 2005 21:14 GMT | 5 |
My tillerpilot is working basackwards, i.e. if the boat goes off course to STBD, the correction is for more STBD. I've lost the manual and am hoping some kind soul can tell me how to reprogram it. I seem to recall that when it was new I keyed in something to tell it which side of ...

| Aluminum and...what? | 30 Jun 2005 20:13 GMT | 5 |
The mast is on sawhorses. I inspected the spreaders. I liked what I saw. Aluminum tubes going from round at the shroud end to oval at the mast, with really sturdy mounts. Here's the problem. The shroud end has an aluminum plug with a groove to accept the

| More LEDs | 30 Jun 2005 14:48 GMT | 11 |
Well, the time has come in our refit to address lighting. Red and white has my attention at the moment. I've had the opportunity to try 12-LED bars, and conclude that they're inadequate for reading in bed, but something like the 39-unit

| Roller Furling | 30 Jun 2005 06:02 GMT | 3 |
I sail a Cape Dory 28 sloop with hanked-on foresails: 150 Genny, 145 Drifter, and a 80 club footed jib. I'm happy with this arrangement primarily for its simplicity and reliability. The club footed jib is self tacking so it's easy to handle. If there's enough wind it's great

| Gimbaled Radar Mounts | 30 Jun 2005 02:26 GMT | 4 |
I am upgrading my radar system to a RayMarine C-80 with a 4 KW radome. I would like to gimbal it and am looking for feedback on good/bad mounts. I will be attaching it to a pole on the stern of the boat. -- Thanks, Geoff

| Coronado flat tops? why aren't all boats... | 29 Jun 2005 19:54 GMT | 8 |
Is the Coronado a flat top? Does the "center cockpit" have a foot well protruding into the cabin area? What's it like with a long uninterupted run of below decks space? Is that what a coronado has? Must be something wrong with it though or everyone would do it eh?

| Float switch alert retraction. | 29 Jun 2005 00:35 GMT | 1 |
Oops! It wasn’t the West Marine rolling ball switch. This just shows the value of testing things over and over. I pushed down on the West switch in this two switch setup and the pump stopped. The system also worked when the bilge level was drawn fully down below the West switch

| Dead windlass | 29 Jun 2005 00:22 GMT | 4 |
If you have a Lewmar windlass and it goes bad, don't look to Lewmar for help. They don't want to fix it. They just want to sell you a new one. Does anyone know of a shop that repairs all brands of windlasses? Google yields little. An automotive electrical shop has been recommended ...

| Marine Binocular Specs: 10X50 or 7X50, which is more practical? | 28 Jun 2005 13:43 GMT | 19 |
I'm sure this is a matter of opinion, but I would tend to favor the 7X50, only because any type of motion makes the larger magnification (10X) hard to deal with. Still, your opinions would be most appreciated!

| Pointin into the wind | 28 Jun 2005 13:15 GMT | 10 |
Its 2005, why do we still have to do this silly pointing into the wind to get the main up or down or to reef it. Surely someone could come up with a way to reef or get the main up or down on any point of sail. I know most sailors are conservative but I am not so if ya got any ideas

| Making a big hole bigger...a tip | 28 Jun 2005 05:04 GMT | 10 |
I'm replacing my knotmeter with a new unit. The hitch is that the old sensor required a 1 3/4" hole in the hull, but the new sensor requires a 2" hole. Ever try to use a hole saw without something for the pilot drill to

| modern equivalent to a Nicholson 32? | 27 Jun 2005 20:15 GMT | 3 |
I'm new to learning about offshore cruisers. I've been reading about the Nicholson 32 on the internet and would like to know which boats have been built since that are "descendents" of this apparently good design.
