steel hull, zinc anodes31 Jan 2006 23:01 GMT3
hi folks, quick question ...
i've been reading a lot about sacrificial zincs for protecting steel
hulls and i haven't been able to figure out from my reading where they
are mounted.  my reading material says how they are mounted, like
Moderators for Rec.boats?31 Jan 2006 06:10 GMT7
The rec.boats NG has is going through challenging times. Where once it
was the
predominant boating NG populated by many industry experts, it has now
become little more than an off-topic chatroom. Most of truly
GPS creep30 Jan 2006 23:43 GMT2
It's insidious!  When I first got the boat, I was going to just
navigate the old fashioned way because that was a big part of the fun
and satisfaction of cruising back when I used to do it in the days
before Loran was common.  But, with family on board, I figured I ought

Marina Question ,,, 30 Jan 2006 08:24 GMT62
I am re-entering the world of cruising.  It has been a number of years.  My
base is New England.
In the last few days I have been brought to the point of absolute insanity
by two of the local marina's near me.
FS: Formosa 46 in Malaysia at USD 3500030 Jan 2006 06:12 GMT2
I am selling a Formosa 46 located in Malaysia.  Very well equipped boat
with strong hull and rebuilt Yanmar engine. However, she needs major
repairs in the salon which explains the low asking price of USD
35,0000.  Perfect for the do-it-yourself or if sailed to Phuket,

How to build a Hard Bimini & Dodger?30 Jan 2006 03:54 GMT2
My family and I (& two kids) cruise aboard our 41' Gulfstar (Seawing) for
5-6 months at a time.  Our bimini is due for replacement & I've been
considering a hard bimini and possibly dodger.  I figured that a hard dodger
will not wear out as fast as one of Sunbrella and it would also ...
Automatic distress VHF radios29 Jan 2006 20:19 GMT50
I was looking at one of the new VHF radios today that has a data plug
to connect to the GPS. It sends out a preformatted distress message
with the boat’s position when you push the panic button on the panel.
This seems like a great idea for someone who cruises with kids,
Fiberglass29 Jan 2006 16:18 GMT1
What causes fiberglass to age...might be the wrong choice of words....  We
were looking at a 1960's Cheoy Lee 30 footer and saw lines in the
hull...some were inline with internal frames and some more radial.  Is this
a sign of a boat that needs to be "put to rest" or a simple ...

St George Island Lighthouse collapse28 Jan 2006 18:31 GMT3
I just learned that sometime last year the lighthouse on St George
Island Florida that had been leaning and then had been stabilized has
collapsed into the surf.
West Marine is Terrible28 Jan 2006 15:02 GMT49
They have driven out almost all their competition with drastic price
reductions.  ONce that is accomplished they raise their prices to a
level much higher than anyone charged prior to their dominance.
They only stock what moves quickly.  They stock nothing for the
Build Boat Computer with Flash Memory Card28 Jan 2006 06:09 GMT4
I remember reading an article in one of the sailing rags on how to build
your own boat computer using a flash memory card...no spinning disk, no
fan...minimal opportunity for salt-water corrossion.
Anybody remember what magazine and issue, or where to get such plans?
