I am considering adding a fuel transponder to my engine linked to my Navman
5500 chartplotter.  But, the tech info for the transponder says the minimum
fuel flow must be over 1.3 gph.  Can anyone tell me what the minimum fuel
cruising nicaragua31 Jul 2006 03:44 GMT8
I've been looking into different places to go cruising with our family
and was wondering if anyone had any recent experience with Nicaragua
(last 6 or 7 years)?    Despite the news of the war being over has been
delayed to marine insurance companies, it seems to have a lot going for
Portuguese Water dog29 Jul 2006 16:09 GMT8
I wonder if the Portuguese Water dog can be trained and used to untangle
lobbers pots rope and fishing net wrapped around your propeller?
Background: From Wikipedia encyclopaedia: Originating back to the 1500s in
Portugal these dogs were used to send messages between boats, to ...
AM-FM Radio29 Jul 2006 05:34 GMT10
Am needing a small, good sounding stereo system for a small sailboat. Only
need AM FM and CD. What's a decent system with speakers at a decent price.
Don't need sirius or xm or marine weather.
Thanks
VHF installation questions28 Jul 2006 22:26 GMT21
I just bought a Quest GX 1255S, not because I plan to start yacking at
vessels that don't give way (see other threads) but so I'll have
something with more range than the handheld when I cruise downeast in
a couple weeks.
Dash sticker residue question ?28 Jul 2006 22:16 GMT8
I have a Larson Cuddy which had a kind of contact paper applied by the
factory to the flat dash area, above the instrument panel. The sun has
taken it's toll on this stuff which has dried up and begun flaking off.
I managed to get it all off however the sticky reside remains on ...
Louder alarm?28 Jul 2006 15:28 GMT2
My Raymarine alarm is not loud enough, especially on anchor watch. Has
anybody fitted an external alarm which you might hear before their boat hits
the rocks?

Heart Freedom 20 Charging issue27 Jul 2006 16:28 GMT1
I was wondering if anyone might be able to offer advice on an issue I'm
having with a Heart Freedom 20 inverter/charger.  Here are the
particulars:

Small simple refrigerator ideas wanted26 Jul 2006 14:46 GMT21
I've been spending a lot of time on the boat and schlepping a lot of
ice.   A real refrigerator system isn't in the cards on my small and
simple sailboat (I know it can be done but I don't want to carry and
feed batteries of sufficient size).
Copper ring report26 Jul 2006 01:17 GMT21
Last spring I took up a bit too soon on the new through hull nut for
my Knotlog sensor and set it a bit below the surface of the hull.

Sanitation Hose26 Jul 2006 00:40 GMT23
I am installing a new head and am going to use fresh water for flushing
getting away from saltwater. I would like to know if the fresh water
will disolve the build-up inside the hose or do I need to replace the
whole sanitation line. It's about a 20 to 25 foot run to the holding
Can you change the battery switch while the engine is running?25 Jul 2006 23:42 GMT23
The AmplePower people agitate for strict prohibition on this saying it
will smoke the diodes in your alternator. Is this true? What are you
supposed to do? Start the boat with the starting battery, let it run
for 10 minutes, turn the engine off and start it again with the house
Cool Mate CLM12KC Air Conditioner power draw25 Jul 2006 18:28 GMT9
This weekend I measured the actual power draw on
our Cool Mate CLM12K (12,000 BTU) air conditioner
and found that it was drawing 12 amps at 124V AC
instead of the 9.1 amps claimed on the Dometic
Best cruising guide ....25 Jul 2006 12:51 GMT6
Can someone recommend the best cruising guide for the Ft. Lauderdale to
Key West area.
Special focus on out of the way places to anchor and play.
Or, if you have favorite places of your own, you're welcome to share.
