Venice, FL bad water cop28 Feb 2007 16:27 GMT137
There is a guy there that routinely hassles transiting boaters with no
FL registration. Never mind that you can pass through FL without FL
numbers, he will give you a ticket anyway. Here are some comments and
people to write if this concerns you.

Single Handed Anchoring off the bow27 Feb 2007 03:35 GMT43
I have been intrigued by the discussion of anchoring -- especially the
thought of rigging an anchor so one can drop it off the bow from the
cockpit. Thinking about spin pole, cleats, hatches, etc., I wonder if
anyone has figured out the best ways to accomplish this maneuver with
Lazy Jack vs Dutchman Sail Flaking System26 Feb 2007 22:30 GMT57

Digital Charts26 Feb 2007 00:09 GMT13
This group has helped me before and I can't understand what the deal
is with digital charts, whether raster or enc.  I can go into any
local map shop, chandlery, marine supply place and buy any nautical
paper chart that was produced by the Australian Hydrographic Office
anchoring from the cockpit?25 Feb 2007 17:35 GMT29
My anchoring technique when sailing solo has always been pretty laughable.
At least for observers anyway.  For some reason, it never occured to me that
i could anchor from any place on the boat other than the bow.  anchoring in
isolated places usually went ok;  a quick sprint to ...
tide clock25 Feb 2007 02:10 GMT17
I saw a tide clock on ebay today, had a single hand with a 'high' at the
top, a 'low' at the bottom and that was pretty much it.  All this for the
bargan price of AU$70.
It occured to me that all it was, is a standard analogue clock with the
Singlehanding VI to Key West24 Feb 2007 11:46 GMT11
I am planning on singlehanding from the Virgins to Key West via the
Old Bahama Channel.  I am concerned about places to anchor and rest on
the trip to be sufficiently alert for traffic and narrow channels.  I
do not want to clear in  DR or Bahamas to save money and time.  Anyone
Pocket mail analog bag phone23 Feb 2007 10:33 GMT5
Verizon has informed me that it will stop all Analog service.  I have
been using a pocketmail device which only works with an analog phone
and a bag phone.  Does anyone know of any work-arounds for this or
should just drop the pocketmail account?
CA to BC Singlehanded?23 Feb 2007 01:41 GMT31
As some know, I'm looking for a 28-ft sailboat, probably an Islander
28. I've seen several in California that look in sailable condition
and in my price-range. Looks like it would cost around $4000CDN or so
to ship one up, so I was thinking...
Trying to decide on a boat...21 Feb 2007 21:51 GMT11
OK,
First it was a Catalina 27. Then, an Ericson 27. Now, I'm considering
Islander 28 or Crown 28. Here's my Take so far:
Catalina 27: kinda cheaply made, but fast, especially upwind in light air
