Shock and shame31 Dec 2007 18:00 GMT25
Front page of the paper this morning.  They are doing it in my state
(Maine).  It's only aircraft at this point but I'm not aware of anything in
the law that will prevent them from starting in on boats.  I know that it
applies to toasters and computers bought in New Hampshire.  ...
What's your (entirely subjective) Favorite Offshore Cruising boat     from 35 to 45'?30 Dec 2007 21:45 GMT34
I'm looking to compile a list of favorite cruising boats based upon
your completely subjective opinions. Eddy and Duff's criteria might be
a useful guide, but don't feel constrained  by it.
   1. She must be easy to handle.

Buying a boat in a foreign land?29 Dec 2007 15:54 GMT11
I see some sailing vessels offered at seemingly remarkable bargains
but they are in Mexico. So how do you go about
buying/registering/documenting boats like this? My money is in us
banks at present. Thank you for your time.
Let's Clarify a few things28 Dec 2007 20:41 GMT23
I have to say this discussion is both hilarious and offensive.
Especially when a certain someone posts that the US Coast Guard would
have been "on leave or sitting around shining our shoes" had this case
not have happened.  For your information sir, while Search and Rescue

December 24 - For all the saints (a riff on a hymn)
Well here we are in St. Simons, having left St. Michaels some
time ago.  However, we're the beneficiary of another couple of
saints, Saint Steven and Saint Michael.  There have also been
A short fairy tale28 Dec 2007 01:43 GMT1
Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl "Will you marry me?" The girl
said "NO!". And the guy lived happily ever after and went fishing,
hunting and sailing a lot and drank beer and farted whenever he wanted.

Coast Guard Licensing of Recreational Boaters27 Dec 2007 20:39 GMT83
The January 2008 issue of SAIL magazine has an editorial about a forthcoming
Coast Guard mandatory license requirement for Recreational boaters. (nothing
to do with the existing license for charters). In addition, the Homeland
security bureaucrats are planning some other rules ...

December 25th - Christmas at Sea
Well, NOAA delivered his usual lump of coal.
However, I'm getting ahead of myself. All day the day before we
left, we tried to get up a mooring that St. Steven had offered to
Real Time Weather  Chesapeake and Delaware Bays27 Dec 2007 03:16 GMT2
I've heard some complaints about the NOAA forecasts on the Cheaspeake
Bay.  To supplement them and do a reality check,  I have found the
PORTS system a handy connection available by cell phone.  It is meant
to help the big ships traverse the Bay and enter the ports.  It is
Buying a boat without sales tax?27 Dec 2007 01:04 GMT33
Ahoy, I live in Washington state and am thinking about my first "real"
boat- a blue water cruiser in the $30k-$120k. When I buy a car I pay
something like 8% or if it's a gift or a damaged vehicle or you phoney
up the bill of sale you still pay some arbitrary made up blue book
Info Wanted about Wind Pilot Atlantik26 Dec 2007 22:31 GMT4
I just picked up a self steering wind vane labeled WindPilot.  This is
a Rudder system not ServoPendulum.  Looking on the web site I see the
newer Pacific WindPilot models, but not much on this model.  Does
anyone have any info on this model?  I would love to get a copy of the
