AIS30 Jan 2008 21:04 GMT38
ACR was advertizing a class b AIS transponder at the Seattle boat
show and they claim it is available in Canada for about $1000. This
includes the vhf and gps antennas. They don't sell in the US because
they haven't been approved yet in the US!

The hidden value of upgrading30 Jan 2008 12:56 GMT44
I took my bow pulpit off to rewire for the LED navigation lights (I went
with Aqua Signal BTW).  Once it was off, I discovered that the holes in the
deck for the wires to run up into the pulpit tubing were drilled off center
so that the wiring was pinched between the mounting ...
Raymarine product horrors30 Jan 2008 03:08 GMT1
This past summer, I purchased a Raymarine E120, 2 KW Raydome radar,
GPS and Wind/Speed/Depth instruments for my CNC Landfall 48.
The E120 product has MASSIVE shortcomings, which are documented by
myself on YouTube:  http://youtube.com/user/cognisense
Welding deck plates - help!29 Jan 2008 19:19 GMT2
I'm replacing a few deck plates in my old steel sailboat. The boat was
built over in Europe the date and builder I don't know. The problem is
matching the steel and I must be doing something wrong. I'm DC welding
and the welding quality is polarity sensitive. I ground minus on the
The Way to Paradise29 Jan 2008 13:04 GMT2
We are all in quest of true happiness.  In this world, the idea of
true/perfect happiness is not feasible because this world is
inevitably doomed to total annihilation.  True happiness is found only
in dwelling upon Paradise, and enjoying its blessings.  However, none
Propspeed??29 Jan 2008 06:16 GMT6
I was at the Seattle Boat Show yesterday, and saw for the first time a
product called Propspeed (http://www.propspeed.com/).  It looked like a
sort of thin rubbery coating - they had a prop there on display with the
stuff on it.
Bowditch29 Jan 2008 04:02 GMT10
I presume I am the last person to figure this out but just in case
someone else cares: the complete Bowditch __including the tables__ it
is available free from the DMA as a pdf at http://tinyurl.com/r42fo.

Motor Sailers28 Jan 2008 15:40 GMT55
The phrase that came up in nearly every response to my New Boat Ideas Wanted
post was "motor sailer".  Some kind of motor sailer was in fact foremost in
my mind when I posted.
A long time ago, I saw an analysis by one of the prominent yacht designers

Marlon fittings in diesel fuel fill?27 Jan 2008 23:44 GMT4
Does anyone know of a reason not to use Marlon fitting in a diesel fuel fill
system?  Specifically, I'd like to put in a Marlon "Y" valve so I can fill
either of two tanks from the same deck fill.
San Juan 2826 Jan 2008 00:46 GMT2
Does anyone have direct experience of these boats? I have heard that
they are fast, and good in light wind, but can be difficult to control
downwind due to the pinched IOR type stern.

ESPRESSO maker wanted, light weight, no Nespresso25 Jan 2008 18:22 GMT10
I was just wondering about the large response about the drip coffee
topic and  if there are any Espresso lovers out there.
As we own a catamaran we always cook underway, hobby of my wife, she
cooks, I eat, yeah, I am a little overweight.
