How many DC amps is too much01 Apr 2008 00:51 GMT48
It is interesting to know how other boaters are selecting equipment
and managing electrical power on cruising sailboats. Standard
production sailboats rarely have onboard DC power grids to support
additional electrical loads. Most extended cruisers and live aboard

I've noticed a correspondence here between the quality of the posts from
those who use their real names and are open about who they are and those who
hide under the cyber rocks and take their potshots from the shadows.  It's
not an absolute but it's a pretty good indicator.
solar-powered Windex light31 Mar 2008 22:01 GMT19
As you know, I'm seriously considering changing around how I switch on my
nav lights. I was thinking about adding a light for the Windex. While not
the only or even the best method of observing wind at night, it sure is
convenient, especially if I have a lot of other distractions ...
Sewage Lines Scale Build-up31 Mar 2008 04:54 GMT27
Does anyone know what the material is that builds up in the sewage lines
(with salt water flushing) on a boat? It is a whitish-grey crust or scale
which seems to build up surprisingly fast.
Is there any easy way to remove, or prevent it?

A subscriber to uk.rec.sailing was recently criticized in that group for
posting a link to a chart on which he had drawn in a sketch of his tacks up
a coast. Another subscriber replied that he would be ashamed to post
evidence of incompetence due to the incorrect and inefficient ...

That Professional Boatbuilder article on fuel polishing Tom posted about

It stresses the need for a true polishing system to create some physical
globally balanced compasses30 Mar 2008 06:39 GMT1
In a moribund thread on possible problems with a compass in a set of
Steiner binoculars I mentioned having seen globally balanced
compasses.  I just happened to run across them again.  So, on the off
chance that someone has been searching for them Suunto makes them.
Best sewage hose?30 Mar 2008 00:49 GMT5
Sorry, I know this was discussed here not long ago but there's something I
don't get about retrieving old posts.
I think Peggie said Trident was the best now but that's all I remember.

Internal mast tracks for wires29 Mar 2008 02:24 GMT4
My 1980 Endeavor 32 Kenyon mast section has neat little internal tracks
molded into it that take what look like miniature sail slides to which the
conduit holding the wiring is fastened with cable ties.  The track is about
1/8 x 3/16 inch oval and many of the slides have aged and ...

Injection Limiter adjustment26 Mar 2008 22:53 GMT69
I've got a Yanmar 2gm20 that I'm pretty convinced has a problem with
the governor (speed is not well controlled especially when it comes
under load).  The seemingly easy path is to fiddle with the injection
limiter.  However, there are a couple of things holding me back.
