I just saw a link to a very helpful site on batteries in a thread below but
now I can't find the OP.  Thanks to whoever posted it.
I particularly recommend this page:

SevenSeasSinbad lost another one????21 Jul 2008 03:56 GMT1
Nobody's heard a peep out of him since he said he was going sailing for the
4th of July week-end/
Is he lost at sea this time because no rescue eventuated? Or is he sailing a
new boat right into the path of Dolly?  I mean, really, the man has no
The lowdown on Skippy! (Long)21 Jul 2008 01:52 GMT6
Like many of you, I am sick and tired of being misinformed and disinformed
by Mr. Skip Gundlach. That's why I'm writing this post, to ensure that the
sailing values for which we and our forebears have labored and for which
many of us have fought and sacrificed will continue in ...

color-coded deck caps?19 Jul 2008 02:35 GMT27
Would someone know where I can find color-coded deck cap replacements?
I'd like to use them instead of the ones I have now.... blue for water, red
for fuel, black for sewage.
I don't want to replace the entire plate... just the caps.

We have an older Lectra/San. It was working fine then all of a sudden
we had to double the salt added per flush. From less than 1/2-cup to
1-cup. I cleaned it twice with muratic acid. Once as per the manual,
then later with twice the concentration and leaving it twice the time.

We're in Fernandina Beach, on Amelia Island, having returned from
15 weeks ashore.  We've pretty much sworn off shore life, after
all that, despite having had the most wonderful hosts and
Engine trouble16 Jul 2008 04:36 GMT1
A friend, driving home from a fishing trip in northern Michigan with his
boat in tow, had engine trouble a few miles inland from Lake Huron.
He didn't have a CB radio in his car, so he decided to use his marine radio
to get help. Climbing into his boat, he broadcast his call ...
VHF DSC Radio Check16 Jul 2008 01:19 GMT12
I just installed a Standard Horizon HX850S handheld VHF radio (with GPS) as
a backup for our 25 watt fixed VHF. I checked out the VHF transmit and
receive function with a couple of radio check calls to local boaters and
reception was 5 by 5. (Actually the reception was better ...
A/C panel info needed15 Jul 2008 13:42 GMT2
I picked up a Marinetics A/C breaker panel that has main breakers and
5 branch breakers. It seems the company is no longer in business.
The Neutral side of the main breakers goes to a buss bar with 5
terminals for 5 branch circuits.

Dear Group:
I have owned several boats (Taswell 43 and Farr 40).  I am looking to
buy a cruising boat and have identified two boats in particular that I
am interested in.  One is a Baltic 48 all fitted out for cruising and
