gas info that i found....30 Sep 2008 21:06 GMT23
Gas prices are ridiculously expensive.  Nowadays you have to think
twice before going out. Why? well not because you don't know where
you're heading, but because of the gas price.  You want to make sure
that you have enough for the REAL needs. But come on, we shouldn't be

This is triggered by the commentary in the thumbs thread...
IMHO (well, most of you know NSM H), something which will take boat
power is best. Mine is the Ubiquiti LiteStation2, and while I now use
a 48V POE, which requires a splitter up there with the bridge
LION laptop batteries30 Sep 2008 02:55 GMT8
What is the best way to maximize Lithium Ion battery life in laptop
computers?  Should the computer just be plugged in whenever possible while
it is used or should it be run on the batteries down to some optimum battery
level and then recharged?  How does deep discharge effect ...
Possible cooperative project29 Sep 2008 22:00 GMT16
I was considering the march of technology and the computing power many
of us have on our boats, then considered the byzantine methods the
various mapping agencies use to create our nautical charts and how
out-of-date they really are.
Go Lehman GO!28 Sep 2008 23:59 GMT36
I did it AGAIN!  Love the ride.
Friday, just as she started a little pop off 10c/share on the pink sheets,
I held my breath and punched [RETURN], dumping the $1800 balance in my
Ameritrade account into Lehman Brothers at 11c/share.  It got to 40c/share
Cool boat & travel computer28 Sep 2008 23:13 GMT103
I've wanted a small computer to take on my upcomming trip but reluctant to
get into Vista or  switch to Apple.  I also don't want to be carrying
anything very expensive or delicate on this trip which will involve a long
boat trip.  All these considerations apply on the sailboat ...

Gold Macaw's long range echolocation SONAR, a deafening flock call I'm sure

Cruise up the Potomac??28 Sep 2008 02:59 GMT2
We left this morning (Saturday) and drove down to the marina (23 miles
by road), and got on the boat, cast the lines off, and with some
difficulty due to an adverse wind which blew us sideways down the
fairway, we motored out of Smith Creek to the Potomac. We

The limit switches I installed in my Raymarine ST1000 Tillerpilot last
winter worked perfectly.

Saturday morning I got up early, dressed quietly, made my lunch,
grabbed the dog, slipped quietly into the garage to hook the boat up to
the truck, and proceeded to back out into a torrential down pour. The
wind was blowing 50 mph. I pulled back into the garage, turned on the
Sold my Boat .. some thoughts26 Sep 2008 14:12 GMT47
After three season of single handed sailing, I was approached by a young guy
as my boat
was taken out for winter storage.  He loved her, and he bought her.
Owning a good size cruising sailboat is lots of work.  I started working,

Wilbur, Wilbur, Wilbur ....
It's obvious to me when I read your rantings that "Wilbur" is a
persona, and that makes me curious, and sad, too, how you gave birth
to this alter-ego, and worse, why?  There was a time when I found that

As we left you, Hanna had been hard hearted, but not hard to
take, as her energy was sapped, apparently, by the trip up the
east coast and down Long Island Sound.
