Question on autopilot29 Jan 2004 21:03 GMT7
In my 1978 Swan 411 there is an old NECO autopilot.  I recently fixed
some minor faulty circuitry and it now works as it is supposed to do.
Too bad that it is a vintage device and, for example, does not have a
NMEA input, the course is set on an absolute 360 deg dial and there is
Questions on fish finder28 Jan 2004 23:42 GMT7
Can anyone tell me how beneficial a "dual beam 24/60 would be vs. a single
24deg?
Also, any opinion on the Hummingbird Matrix 17/20/25 finders?
Thanks,

nmea installation27 Jan 2004 23:35 GMT3
Does anyone have suggestions on how to provide NMEA  data to several
"listeners" for example autohelm and radar. Here is the setup: I feed
several NMEA enabled instruments output to a laptop via a NMEA multiplexer
then, feed the NMEA data stream to an autopilot and radar using the ...
SSB reflected power?27 Jan 2004 19:45 GMT28
Well, now that my SSB is up and running, I have one more minor problem ( I
think). Whenever I key up the mike to talk, some of the electronics go nuts,
like the Link 20 (near the grounding foil), the VHF goes blank and one of
those "touch" 110 lamps goes on and off. The radio tech ...

After market source for connectors/interface cables??26 Jan 2004 23:35 GMT13
There has to be a cheaper way to interconnect electronics.. I thought
Raymarine was expensive and difficult to deal with, then I upgraded from a
1720 to 1721 Furuno radar.. $35 to $50 for a NMEA or Compass cable.. The
only cable that is interchangeable is the power cable.
Holding Tank Gauge26 Jan 2004 18:20 GMT1
I am installing an " Acugauge" by Snake River Mfg. on my holding tank.
Is it necessary or "good practice" to use some kind of corrosion
protection on the exterior contact strips, and if so, what?

coax types26 Jan 2004 16:24 GMT6
I just installed an omni-directional TV antenna using RG59U coax, but the
picture on some channels is fuzzy.  During a test before permanent
installation, I used normal TV coax (black stuff) and the picture was fine
on all the channels.  Is RG59U the right ohm cable???

Landed on our side, we did....25 Jan 2004 22:45 GMT2
Just watched us land, again, on Mars.  2.5G.  Very soft.  Lander's
made for 40G.  Looks like we rolled up, after all the bouncing, and
are on our side.
Simply amazing engineering masterpieces.  Too bad the Realvideo feed
