Aboard Lionheart, I recently decided it was crazy to have the Dell Latitude running The Cap'n bolted to the serial cable at the chart table. I want to take it up in the cockpit during my watch in the night so I can operate the Cap'n without leaving my helm/watch duties.

Problem is that I upgraded my Cmap for larger area and now it will not work on my GPS Humminbird NP25. It works on a friends Navman 5500i strangely and is ok when checked by the supplier.

I currently have a Garmin 225 (DGPS) interfaced to a Furuno 1621 Radar and Standard Horizon VHF. It is about time to replace the Garmin while it still has commercial value. Question is.... what would you suggest as a replacement?

Anybody have any experience with these little devices? I'm speaking of the iPAQ series PDA/handheld computers and the Navman GPS receiver with the Maptech charts. Any information/advice would be appreciated.

Does anyone know how I can download the map on my memory chip to save it to my laptop, so I can load another map. Then when I'm finished with the second map i can replace it with the one that I downloaded.
