Autohelm ST5000 Wheelpilot problems. The unit seems to work fine with its fluxgate compass sometimes, but 'throws wobblies', in which the display goes berserk - displaying moving random segments of numbers including the small 'Cal & Wpt'

I was hoping someone could help me out. I have a 1999 Lowrance Globomap 2000. The unit works fine but the screen has numerous thin vertical lines or blank lines on the screen. Enough that it makes the unit difficult to read. Is there a fix for such a problem.

Most boaters use laptops for onboard computing, but I want to see what this group thinks about using a more permanent PC solution? My opinion is that laptops work fine most of the time, but they aren't really designed for life on the water unless you go with a very expensive
