Garmins and autopilot interfaces31 Dec 2005 14:12 GMT6
About two month ago, I reported here (and to Garmin) a problem with
the NMEA interface with my new GpsMap 276C and my autopilot AH/ST4000
and until today, this problem was not fixed by Garmin. I do not
believe that I am the sole user in the world witch have interfaced my
loran questions31 Dec 2005 13:57 GMT50
Got a question on LORAN sets.  I don't want to get into the desireability of
GPS as the nav mode of choice today.  I'm fiddling around with LORAN and
trying to get going with it.
1.  What is/are LORAN operating frequencies?
ARPA data30 Dec 2005 23:52 GMT12
Does anyone know where I could get some sample output from an ARPA radar? Or
even a simulator that outputs over serial port?
I have a system that can take in AIS data, and I'd like to include ARPA input
as well if I can get some data to play with.
Garmin to Uniden29 Dec 2005 23:17 GMT7
Has anyone wired a Garmin 198C to a Uniden M525?
There are four NMEA wires on each and I have yet to make the right
connections; I do have the wiring diagrams for each item.
The Garmin should send time and position info to the Uniden, and the Uniden
Matching a new depth sounder to an old transponder29 Dec 2005 17:23 GMT7
I am about to purchase a depth sounder to replace the old one[s]. I
have two transponders in the bottom. One at 50hz from a Furuno/Kobel
and another 200hz (???) that belonged to a Gemtronics. What are the
chances that they will work with a new sender/display unit.

Anyone else that offers repair to Datamarine Instruments?
Windows CE and Charts27 Dec 2005 22:55 GMT6
I got a PDA with Windows CE and an internal GPS, I use Nobeltec software to
viem my marine charts on my laptop. I was wondering is there any apps that
will run in WinCE and view my marine charts.
Thanks, and merry xmas.
GPS Question27 Dec 2005 17:46 GMT11
I have some experience with GPS units in auto's.  Does the marine units work
the same?  Can you put a destination in the unit and it will show you the
way like the one in an auto or do you have to manually put in the waypoints
and then select each as you proceed toward a ...

Battery Removal23 Dec 2005 03:31 GMT11
I'm getting ready to remove 4 8D batteries. They are in the forward
part of an engine room, below deck level. I don't have much room to
maneuver. Does anyone know of a small hoist frame or have any
suggestions for a removal method that doesn't involve back surgery.

I am just about to buy a bunch of Raymaine instruments for my new B
393, and just found out that the ST60 is limited to using SOW, and
won't use GPS SOG & COG, to calculate true wind.
After looking thru this forum, I see some references to this issue, but

Breaker Panel Mess19 Dec 2005 06:58 GMT33
My boats breaker panel is such an unholy mess that it is almost
impossible to remove and get enough service slack to do any work.
There are numerous problems ranging from the battery leads being too
short to impossibly stiff (non marine ) wire. I am going to get longer
How to weigh a catch?16 Dec 2005 06:33 GMT15
This isn't "rec", but it is "boats.electronics".
I am wondering how the weight of a catch on a fishing trawler could be
measured while the vessel is at sea. I'm thinking that the weight of the
whole vessel might need to be taken into account as there will be variables
