Garmin Radar30 Jul 2006 15:01 GMT1
Is anyone using or have knowledge of Garmin Radar?    I like Garmin
chartplotters above all others, would like to buy combined
Radar/chartplotter unit.  Another boater thought they were hard to use.

Data Logger for Refrigeration30 Jul 2006 00:15 GMT11
I would like to do some testing on our Refrig unit.
Minimum would be to monitor icebox temperature and voltage to compressor so
that I can see on-off cycle and resulting temperature vs time for a 1-2 day
period.
WiFi Access29 Jul 2006 06:03 GMT11
I have a non-laptop Shuttle computer on my sailboat. I would like to be able
to access marina and other WiFi points when available. I have talked to some
of the marine WiFi providers and they only provide hardware that works with
laptop computers. At the Oakland boat show the ...
How do you make a VHF marine antenna directional?29 Jul 2006 01:24 GMT6
I'm trying to get a land-based VHF marine monitoring station up and
need to make my antenna have some degree of directionality.  I need to
know if there is a "simple" way for me get about a 180 degrees of
coverage versus 360 (in hopes of increasing my range in the right
modar triton 55/75 plug connector schematic28 Jul 2006 21:03 GMT4
All 6 wires corroded off the plug that goes into the back of my Modar
Triton 55/75 VHF marine radio.  Can anyone tell what wire is supposed
to go to each pin so I can rewire it.
Thanks
Depth FInder Sensor28 Jul 2006 17:02 GMT9
Hello all, so as oppossed to drilling a hole in my hull for a depth
finder sensor, I should be able to set it up inside the hull as long as
the sensor is in some type of liquid right?  IT will be able to  tell
depths through the fiberglass hull right?
Zinc is dissappearing FAST!25 Jul 2006 05:04 GMT33
I just relaunched my boat after painting the bottom, installing new
zincs and instruments.  That was in March of this year. Around the 1st
of July, I scrubbed the bottom in preparation for a race, and noticed
the zinc on the strut was nearly gone, despite only having been in the
Power Inverters24 Jul 2006 03:26 GMT8
I'm new to the group and fairly new to boating. I've just purchased a
Wellcraft 210 Suncruiser and I've got a spare new battery (800 cold cranking
amps) and would like to run a power inverter off of it to run a small fan
and maybe a boom box. Nothing special or overpowering. A ...
Distress/ Diruptor  Dk160023 Jul 2006 03:44 GMT14
Anyone have any knowledge of this German made electronic distres
device? It seems to me that it was just to old and outdated for curren
applications and was left at the nav/station.
There is presently a EPIRB on board and I'm assuming it took it'
Garmin 298 vs 498 differences??22 Jul 2006 19:22 GMT7
I must be getting stupid as I grow older.  I can't seem to figure out
the difference between the Garmin 298 and 498 chartplotter / sounder
combo units.
As best as I can tell, they both do the same thing...  Maybe the

Can an alternator be to big?21 Jul 2006 01:36 GMT21
I have been offered a really good deal on a high amp (325 amp) fire engine
alternator by the city vehicle maintenance shop.  It was purchased as a test
unit but due to some budget cutbacks ended up being to expensive to equip
the whole fleet.   This monster is hot rated at 200 ...
Euro receptacles/ AC plugs20 Jul 2006 04:46 GMT1
Since their installation when the boat was configured around 1988 i
Germany, I am curious about advantages of having them remain in th
vessel for the future, when I cast off to other countries from the US.
Are they still needed or is there standards of uniformity in mos
Garmin, Lowrance & Laptop19 Jul 2006 02:29 GMT6
I'm a newbie to boat electronics, so I'll apologize up front for some
basic questions.
I've got a 32' flybridge sedan that I use on Lake Lanier in Georgia
(lake is about 140 feet deep, max). I currently use a handheld Garmin
Depth Finder Doesn't Work- Back Again18 Jul 2006 16:30 GMT8
I apologize for this long delay in responding, but I have been without
land-line phone service since Thursday night, hence no Internet. It
was just restored this afternoon.
