I just bought a used Old Town Egret recreational touring kayak. I also acquired a set of Yakima footbraces, also used. Anybody have any hints on where in the boat to install them, or should I just go with the old "that looks about right" rule?

Two of my canoes have cane seats which have imploded. I would like to replace the cane with something that will last. I've tried using webbing, attached with stainless screws and washers, but can't seem to get it tight. Any suggestions?

Explorer 16 (green), two life jackets, two paddles, and some tie downs... about $750... not too bad... the in-laws are coming down this weekend so we have to wait until next weekend to take it out for its (i guess boats are called "her") maiden voyage...
