F. Collar paddles30 Dec 2004 09:52 GMT2
Read a 1940ies canoeing book the other day and saw an advert for paddles
made by F. Collar in Oxford.
Kind of intrigued me, seems wooden paddles are mostly imported into the UK
nowadays, from far away places.

Critical kayak gear for safety24 Dec 2004 13:05 GMT21
I'm a recent convert to the occassionally wet world of kayaking. I have
practised wet exits and self rescues, wear a PDF and always carry a
paddle float and bail pump. While most of my rough water experience has
been coastal and always accompanied by at least one other more

Besides the obvious differences $100,day hatch,1"in beam,1'in length,

I am buying my first kayak but have been renting and demoing for a
couple of years. I have narrowed my choices to 3 similar boats. I am
very interested in hearing from those that own or have used these
boats for a period of time.

My parents are retiring to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico this summer and will
be living right on the ocean.  They are 65 and 70 and are in reasonably
good physical condition from biking and walking daily.  They have
expressed interest in getting a sea kayak or two and I would like to

Hey riverman, are you out there? Came across this article this weekend,

Advice on researching adding play features?20 Dec 2004 22:47 GMT5
What are the basic first things a person should do if they're
interested in getting manmade play features added to their city's
river?  Raise money to bring in a consultant?  If so, what sort of
consultant?  Get people to sign a petition?  Look for funding?

I belong to a canoe and kayak club, in a city that's about three hours
away from the closest whitewater.  One problem we've been having is
that out of about 30 students who we teach to kayak (In a pool) over
the winter, usually only about two or three will stick with it after
